Yannick Ngakoue ends brief holdout
Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue will end his holdout and report to training camp today according to Ian Rapoport
Yannick Ngakoue was planning to report to training camp on the free-agent deadline. Due to his return before August 6th, he will now be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next March.
The Jaguars recently offered Ngakoue a short-term deal worth over 19 million dollars a year per Tom Pelissero. He would be netting 50 million over the next two years. This was not enough. This caused negotiations to end and subsequently, he missed the first two weeks of practice.
Yannick Ngakoue will enter the final year of his rookie contract. The term of the deal was four years worth 3.48 million dollars. His base pay this season estimates to 2.025 million dollars.
Last season, Ngakoue started all 16 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He recorded 28 tackles, nine and a half sacks, and broke up one pass. With this being a contract year, it would help him to increase these stats to kick up negotiations again.
Ngakoue is looking for a deal that would get him around 20 million dollars a year. This would match the elite defensive linemen. He has 29.5 sacks during his short career. This next season will make or break negotiations for a mega-contract.
