OTH- Daily Odds 8/7/19 is part of a daily series providing you with the odds for all major sports being played that day.
12:10 EST Marlins @ Mets – The Mets will be sending Steven Matz to the mound this afternoon. Since returning to the rotation in mid July, Matz gave up two runs or less in his first three starts, but he gave up five runs over 3 and ⅔ innings in his last start. The Marlins offense has been struggling recently, but may be able to get to Matz on Wednesday. The Marlins send Jordan Yamamoto to the mound. He has given up 15 runs in 14 innings over his last three outings. The Mets have scored at least five runs in each of their last five games, and look for them to do so again.
Picks: Mets Over 4.5 (-130), Game Over 8.5 (-115), 1st 5 Over 5 (-120)
1:10 EST White Sox @ Tigers – Ivan Nova has turned it around in recent games for the White Sox. The White Sox have won each of his last three starts, in which Nova has given up 11 hits and four runs over 20 innings pitched. The Tigers will counter with Tyler Alexander, who has struggled in his last two starts. He has given up 18 hits and eight runs over 10 innings of work. The White Sox have scored at least five runs in each of their last four games, and look for that to continue on Wednesday.
Picks: White Sox (-112), White Sox 1st 5 (-125), White Sox over 4.5 (-115), Tigers Under 4.5 (-135)
1:10 EST Braves @ Twins – In the rubber match of this series, Max Fried of Atlanta will square off against Martin Perez. Martin Perez has given up five runs in two of his last three starts, and has a 4.35 ERA at home this season. Fried is 7-1 in road starts this season, but does have a road ERA of 4.40. Last night’s game was 12-7, and we can see this game having a very similar score.
Picks: Game Over 10.5 (-115), Atlanta Over 4.5 (-145), Minnesota Over 4.5 (-135), Yes for a run in the 1st (-140)
1:10 EST Rangers @ Indians – The Indians try to get back into the win column after a shut out loss two nights ago. Starting for the Indians will be Zac Plesac. Outside of a seven run outing at the end of June, Plesac has been very consistent for the Indians. Since that seven run outing he has allowed more than two earned run only once. In his only start against the Rangers this year, Plesac went seven innings allowing only one run on two hits. Ariel Jurado has been a little more inconsistent then Plesac. His first few starts were great but it has been mostly down hill ever since. In the last month he has allowed 16 earned runs in 22.1 innings with opponents hitting .300 against him. Look for the Indians to have a big day offensively, while Plesac has success on the mound.
Picks: Indians -1.5 (-110), Indians 1st 5(-155), Rangers Under 4.5 (130), Indians Over 5.5 (-130), Yes to a run in the 1st (-145)
1:10 EST Blue Jays @ Rays – The Rays scored seven straight runs to comeback and beat the Blue Jays last night. Starting for the Rays this afternoon will be Brendan Mckay, who is making his second start since being recalled to the Majors. In his last two home starts he has allowed nine runs in just 8.1 innings. Wilmer Font will take the mound for the Blue Jays. He has been solid in his last few appearances as an opener, and has not allowed a run in his last two outings. Expect both teams to get on the board early.
Picks: Blue Jays Over 3.5 (-115), Total Over 5 1st 5 (-120), Total Over 9 (-115)
2:10 EST Rockies @ Astros – After winning the debut of Zack Greinke, things won’t get any easier today for the Rockies. The Astros send Gerrit Cole to the mound, who has been brilliant in recent starts. The Astros have won seven of his last eight starts, and Cole has given up one run or less in eight of his last nine starts. The Rockies will counter with Peter Lambert, and they have lost seven of his last eight starts. He has given up four or more runs in 40 percent of his starts this season, and look for Houston to stay hot.
Picks: Astros -1.5 (-175), Astros Over 5.5 (-110)
2:20 EST Athletics @ Cubs – Jose Quintana will try to build off his last start where he went six innings allowing two earned runs. The Cubs have won each of the last six games started by Quintana. Homer Bailey will make his fifth start for the Athletics this afternoon. In his last road game Bailey gave up nine earned runs in just two innings of work. Expect the Cubs to bounce back from their blowout loss yesterday with a win today.
Picks: Cubs 1st 5 (-150), Cubs (-140), Athletics Under 4.5 (-110), Total Under 10.5 (-110)
3:10 EST Cardinals @ Dodgers – The Dodgers extended their home record to 45-15 with yesterday’s 3-1 win over the Cardinals. The Cardinals bats have been quiet as of late, scoring three runs or less in eight of their last nine games. On Wednesday, they face Dustin May. May gave up three runs in 5 and ⅔ innings in his only start of the season. The Cardinals counter with Jack Flaherty, who is 1-3 with a 5.44 ERA in 10 road starts this season. Look for the Dodgers to continue their winning ways at home.
Picks: Dodgers (-144), Dodgers 1st 5 (-145), Game Over 8.5 (-120), Dodgers Over 4.5 (-110)
3:45 EST Nationals @ Giants – The Nationals look to maintain their recent stronghold over San Francisco and finish off the sweep on Wednesday. This pitching match up features two pitchers that have had struggles this season. Joe Ross is starting for the Nationals, and he has had mixed results this season. His last start was great, as he gave no runs and one hit in 5 and ⅓ innings. In his two starts before that, he gave up 17 hits and 10 runs in 10 innings. Shaun Anderson has given up at least three runs in each of his last six starts. With the inconsistency of these pitchers, we like some overs in this game.
Picks: Game Over 9 (-115), First 5 Over 5 (-115) , Wash Over 4.5 (-110)
6:40 EST Padres @ Mariners – The Padres and the Mariners will finish up their two games series this afternoon in Seattle. Joey Lucchesi will take the mound for the Padres. Lucchesi has 14 starts this season in which he allowed three earned runs or less. With the Mariners roster being depleted and having nothing left to play for look for that number to get to 15 tonight.
Picks: Padres (-152), Padres 1st 5 (-155), Total Under 9.5 (-115)
7:00 EST Brewers @ Pirates – The Brewers look to complete the sweep tonight in against the Pirates. Christian Yelich continued his tear against the Pirates adding two more home-runs to his total last night. Pittsburg is 0-7 in their last seven home games against teams with winning records, and we like that trend to continue tonight. Starting for the Brewers will be Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz hasn’t given up a run in his last seven outings (7.1 innings). Trevor Williams will take the mound for the Pirates. He has allowed 19 earned runs in his last 29 innings of work. Look for the Brewers to score plenty of runs, and make it three in a row over the Pirates.
Picks: Brewers 1st 5 (-135), Over 5 1st 5 (-125), Total Over 9.5 (-120)
7:05 EST Yankees @ Orioles – The Yankees have had recent dominance in Baltimore, and look to continue that today. Today’s matchup features James Paxton vs John Means. Paxton has given up two runs or less in four of his last six starts, but he gave up seven in each of those other two starts. John Means has had a great rookie campaign, but has given up eight runs in his last twelve innings in home starts. The Yankees have scored at least six runs in seven of their last nine games and we like that trend to continue today.
Picks: Game Over 9.5 (-110), 1st 5 Over 5.5 (-110), Yankees over 5.5 (-130), Baltimore Over 3.5 (-110)
7:10 EST Royals @ Red Sox – The most frustrating team in baseball right now may be the Boston Red Sox. With all of the talent they have, they find themselves on the outside looking in for the playoff picture right now. In today’s game, they send Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound. He is 13-5 on the season, and gave up three runs or less in six of his last seven starts. He squares off against Glenn Sparkman, who has really struggled in recent games. He has given up at least five runs in each of his last three starts. Even though they’ve been struggling, we like the Red Sox to take care of business today.
Picks: Boston -1.5 (-165), Game Over 10.5 (-110), 5 Inning Over 6 (-120)
9:40 EST Phillies @ Diamondbacks – Zac Gallen will make his first start for the Diamondbacks since his trade from Miami. Gallen has been great this year in his seven starts allowing three runs or fewer in each of them. Jason Vargas takes the mound for the Phillies. In five starts since the All-Star break Vargas has given up 14 runs in 29 innings. Look for Gallen to have another good outing while getting some run support from the offense.
Picks: Diamondbacks 1st 5 (-150), Diamondbacks (-136), Phillies Under 4.5 (-115)
