OTH- Daily Odds 8/9/19 is part of a daily series providing you with the odds for all major sports being played that day.
3:10 EST Athletics @ White Sox – The Oakland A’s continue their week long venture in Chicago, as they open up a three game set against the White Sox. They are hoping to do better than 1-2 on the south side of town. They open the series up with arguably the most consistent pitcher in baseball, Mike Fiers. He has now gone 18 straight starts without giving up more than three runs. On July 12, he threw 7 and ⅓ scoreless innings against the White Sox. The Sox will counter with Ross Detwiler, who is 1-2 with a 5.72 ERA on the season. In his only appearance against Oakland this season, he gave up seven hits and five runs in 3 and ⅓ innings pitched. The White Sox have lost his last two starts, and the last six games in which he has appeared. The White Sox are 2-8 at home since the All Star Break, and scored three runs or less in all eight losses.
Picks: Oakland -1.5 (-155), Oakland -0.51st 5 (-160), 1st 5 Under 6 (-115)
7:05 EST Astros @ Orioles – The Astros enter today’s game on a six game win streak, out scoring their opponents 54-13. Wade Miley has looked fantastic for the Astros recently allowing two runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts, with Houston going 6-1 in those games. The Orioles are trying to avoid being a punching bag for the second straight series after giving up 32 runs in just three games to the Yankees. Dylan Bundy, who is starting for the Orioles has struggled since the All-Star break allowing 15 earned runs in in 17.1 innings. Expect the Astros to pick up right where they left off tonight against the Orioles.
Picks: Astros – .5 1st 5 (-160), Astros -1.5 (-170), Total over 10.5 (-110), Baltimore Over 3.5 (-125)
7:07 EST Yankees @ Blue Jays – The Yankees just keep on rolling. They are winners of nine in a row, and they are averaging 8.56 runs per game over that stretch. The Blue Jays will send out Sean Reid Foley to try to quiet their bats. In four starts this season, he has given up 11 runs in 16 and ⅓ innings pitched. He has also walked four guys in each of his last two starts. The Yankees will send JA Happ to the mound, who is 9-6 on the season with a 5.24 ERA. He is 3-0 in 9 road starts this season with a 4.62 ERA, and is 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA in two starts against the Jays. The Jays bats have been hot, however, as they have scored five or more runs in nine of their last thirteen games. We like the Yankees to win a high scoring game again tonight.
Picks: Yankees -1.5 (-120), Yankees -0.5 1st 5 (-120), Game Over 10.5 (-125), 1st 5 Over 6 (-120), NYY Over 5.5 (-135), Toronto Over 4.5 (-105), Yes to a run in the 1st (-145)
7:10 EST Angels @ Red Sox – After Last nights win, the Red Sox look to give the Angels their eighth consecutive loss. The Angels have not beaten the Red Sox in Fenway in their last four games they have played there. Starting for the Angels will be Jaime Barria who has had an up and down season. In his last four games he has allowed 16 earned runs while walking seven batters in 17.1 innings. Brian Johnson will make his fourth start of the year for Boston. Expect Johnson to have a solid performance against this Angels lineup that is struggling to score.
Picks: Red Sox -.5 1st 5 (-120), Red Sox (-165), Angles Under 5.5 (-125), 1st 5 Under 7 (-115), Total Under 12 (-120)
7:10 EST Braves @ Marlins – Julio Teheran is second only to Hyun-Jin Ryu in total starts allowing one or no earned runs with 11. Teheran has dominated the Marlins this year pitching a combined 18 scoreless innings with the Marlins batting just .145 against him. Caleb Smith will take the mound for the Marlins. Smith has faced the Braves twice this season, giving up six earned runs in 12 innings of work. Look for the Braves to bounce back after a bad performance yesterday.
Picks: Braves 1st 5 (-135), Braves (-150), Braves Over 4.5 runs (+105), 1st 5 Over 4 (-110)
7:10 EST Royals @ Tigers – In game 2 of the AL Central Cellar Dweller series, Brad Keller faces off against Edwin Jackson. Keller has been better in recent games for the Royals, as he has given up two earned runs or less in five of his last six starts. Against the Tigers this season, he is 1-1 with a 2.79 ERA. Journeyman Edwin Jackson will make his first start for Detroit tonight. On the season, Jackson is 1-5 with an 11.12 ERA. Look for the Royals to score a lot of runs and even the series at one game a piece.
Picks: Kansas City (-158), KC -0.51st 5 (-130), Game Over 10 (-115), 1st 5 Over 5.5 (-125), KC Over 5.5 (-110), Yes to a 1st inning run (-145)
7:10 EST Nationals @ Mets – Steven Strasburg and the Nationals open up a three game series against Marcus Stroman and the red hot Mets. The Mets have won 13 of their last 14 games. In Marcus Stroman’s first start with the Mets he only made it through 4.1 innings while somehow only giving up three earned runs. Stroman has struggled against the National League allowing 13 earned runs in 22 innings. Strasburg got roughed up in his last start against the Diamondbacks giving up nine runs. Expect both starters to give up a couple runs early but improve off of their last outings.
Picks: Nationals Over 3.5 (-145), Mets Over 3.5 (-105), 1st 5 Over 4 (-110), Total Over 8 (+100)
7:10 EST Cubs @ Reds – Have the Cubs fixed their road woes? After last night’s game, many Cubs fans certainly hope so. Tonight they send Yu Darvish to the mound to win game two of this four game set with the Reds. Cubs fans are finally starting to get more excited about Yu Darvish. Darvish has been much better since the All Star Break, giving up seven runs in 29 innings over his last five starts(2.17 ERA). He will square off against Trevor Bauer, who is 3-0 in his career against the Cubs. He has given up 16 hits and 11 runs in his last two starts, however, only going 9 innings total in those starts. The Cubs offense may be finally hitting its stride, as they have scored at least six runs in five of their last seven games. Look for the Cubs to continue their recent hot streak (8-3 in their last 11, 6-1 in their last 7).
Picks: Cubs (-123), Cubs 1st 5 (-130), Cubs Over 4.5 (-110), Reds Under 4.5 (-150)
8:10 EST Rangers @ Brewers – The Milwaukee Brewers notched an important sweep this week at Pittsburgh. They had lost six of seven games before that series, but seem to have righted the ship. Today they host the Texas Rangers. The Rangers send left handed Kolby Allard to the mound. Allard was a Braves AAA prospect, and was recently dealt to the Rangers. Allard is 7-5 with a 3.99 ERA in 21 AAA starts this season. The Brewers counter with Gio Gonzalez, who has given up three runs or less in eight of his nine starts this season. We look for Milwaukee to take care of business in their first game back at home.
Picks: Brewers -1.5 (-105), Brewers -0.5 1st 5 (-140), Brewers Over 5.5 (-105)
8:10 EST Indians @ Twins – The Indians pulled within one game of the division lead after a 7-5 win over the Twins. Starting tonight for the Indians will be Devin Smeltzer who will be making his sixth appearance of the season. Smelter has allowed one earned run or fewer in all but one outings. Even thought the Twins are facing Shane Bieber, look for them to do whatever is necessary to keep to Indians from pulling even with them in the division.
Picks: Twins +.5 1st 5 (-115), Twins (+130)
8:15 EST Pirates @ Cardinals – In an NL Central showdown, the reeling Pirates travel to St. Louis to face the reeling Cardinals. The Pirates are 2-15 in their last 17 games. The Cardinals are coming back home after an 0-5 California trip. The good news , though, is that the Cardinals are 6-1 against Pittsburgh since the All Star Break. The Cardinals will send Dakota Hudson to the mound, who has seen his ERA rise from 3.40 to 3.99 in his last six starts. He has started two games against Pittsburgh this season and has given up three runs in both starts. The Pirates counter with Chris Archer, who is 0-4 with an ERA over 7.00 in nine starts this season. He is 0-1 with a 3.71 ERA in three starts against the Cardinals in 2019. We like both teams to get their bats going, and we like the Cardinals to win this game.
Picks: Cardinals (-148), Cardinals 1st 5 (-130), 1st 5 Over 5 (-115), Game Over 9 (-110), Pirates over 3.5 (-145), STL Over 4.5 (-125), Yes to 1st inning run (-120)
10:10 EST Diamondbacks @ Dodgers – The Diamondbacks travel to LA to take on the NL West leading Dodgers. Robbie Ray will be starting for Arizona, and has struggled in a couple games against the Dodgers this year allowing nine earned runs and nine walks in 18.1 innings. Walker Buehler is trouble for opposing teams when pitching at home this year. He enters the today’s matchup 5-0 with a 2.54 ERA at home. The Diamondbacks are 1-4 in their last five meetings against Walker Buehler.
Picks:Dodgers -.5 1st 5 (-130), 1st 5 Over 4 (-115), Over 7.5 (-115)
10:10 EST Rockies @ Padres – Will the real Kyle Freeland please stand up? Rockies fans have been disappointed all season with Freeland, who sports a 3-9 record with a 7.24 ERA this season. He has given up two runs or less in two of his last three starts, which has made Rockies fans wonder where this effort was all season. He is 1-5 on the season in 8 road starts and we look for that trend to continue tonight. San Diego is throwing Cal Quantrill, who has pitched really well in recent outings. He has given up one run or less in three of his last four starts, and has given up one run in his last 11 and ⅓ innings at home. Look for the Padres to take care of business tonight.
Picks: SD (-137), SD 1st 5 (-145), SD Over 4.5 (-110)
10:10 EST Rays @ Mariners – This pitching matchup features Jalen Beeks vs. Marco Gonzales. Gonzales is 7-4 in home starts this season, but has an ERA at home of 4.76. Jalen Beeks has been great this season as an opener/middle innings guy on the road. He is 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 37 and ⅔ road innings this season. The Rays offense has been hot in recent games(six or more runs in eight of their last 10 games), so we like them to win tonight and some overs as well.
Picks: TB (-127), TB 1st 5 (-140), Game Over 9 (-120), 1st 5 Over 5 (-115), TB Over 4.5 (-130), Seattle Over 3.5 (-145), Yes to a 1st inning run (-115)
10:15 EST Phillies @ Giants – Both starting pitchers for today’s game have a tendency to give up a lot of runs. Drew Smyly looked as though a change of scenery had done him well, until his most recent outing where he allowed five earned runs to a struggling White Sox lineup. Smyly has given up four earned runs or more in nine of his 16 starts this year. Tyler Beede is right there with Smyly. Beede has allowed four earned runs or more in each of his last three starts. Expect both starters to continue to get hit hard tonight in San Fransisco.
Picks: Over 4.5 1st 5 (-125), Total Over 8.5 ( -115), Giants Over 3.5 ( -135), Phillies Over 4.5 (-105)
