There are many amazing prospects available for the 2020 NHL draft. Cole Perfetti, of the Saginaw Spirit in the Ontario Hockey League, is among the most talented. Anyone who watched the recent Hlinka Gretzky Cup can attest to that. Perfetti led the tournament in scoring registering 12 points in five games played.

Ranked #5 by HOCKEYPROSPECT.COM Ranked #8 by FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS

Skating ( B )

Perfetti has exceptional edge work and the ability to weave his way through traffic. However, his top-end speed is only average. The explosiveness of both his starts and his overall speed should improve as he gets stronger.

Hockey IQ ( A+ )

This undoubtedly is Perfetti’s greatest asset. He has the hockey sense and elite vision to make split-second decisions. This combination of skills allows him to find open ice and open teammates. Thus, making him a constant threat in the offensive zone.

Shooting ( A- )

Perfetti possesses a deadly accurate shot with a remarkably quick release. Perhaps as good as anyone in this draft class. On the other hand, shot velocity is an area that requires work. But once again, that is something that should improve with increased strength.

Playmaking ( A )

Keen vision and pinpoint accuracy are key factors in what makes Perfetti among the top passers in the 2020 NHL draft class. His ability to finish coupled with his superb playmaking skills are what make him one of the top offensive threats available.

Size and physicality ( C )

At 5’10” and only 185 lbs, size is a slight concern. However, in today’s game and with his overall hockey sense, size won’t hinder his ability to produce at the pro level.

Defensive game ( B )

Perfetti anticipates well and is extremely dangerous when used on the penalty kill. His 200-ft. game is a work in progress but has shown improvement.

Puck protection skills ( A- )

His ability to change direction quickly along with his overall awareness allow Perfetti to possess the puck at will. He also has the ability to process situations in a flash and the necessary puck skills to execute plays at high speed.

Overall evaluation

The offensive package that Perfetti possesses makes him one of my favourite prospects for the 2020 NHL draft. I look forward to watching him this season. The 37 goals and 37 assists he recorded as a rookie last season in the OHL attest to his offensive prowess. I would expect those numbers to increase significantly this season and feel that Perfetti should see his name called very early at the 2020 NHL draft.
