Cincinnati Bengals curse on the offensive line continues
The offensive line for the Bengals organization has been cursed for a long time because of the bad luck that started three offseasons ago
Andrew Whitworth and Keith Zeitler left due to free agency. For three seasons the Cincinnati Bengals have delivered subpar performances by the offensive line.
This year the Bengals fans were expecting a different mood due to a different coaching staff. New head coach Zac Taylor chose a new coaching staff to set the mood better.
The Cincinnati Bengals mood took a bad turn at the start of camp
The Bengals number one draft pick left tackle Jonah Williams will be out for the season with a shoulder injury. Clint Boling at the end of last season suffered a blood clot in his leg. He decided to retire due to medical issues stemming from the blood clot.
Christian Westerman is the latest spell of bad luck
The day after the Bengals won against the Redskins Christian Westerman was put on the exempt/left squad list. This is due to his self-confidence destroyed by former head coach Marvin Lewis. Even with the change in management, he would still be at the bottom of the depth chart. He will still be under contract if he comes out of retirement.
The roster for the Bengals could be better
Left tackle Cordy Glenn has not been completely healthy since surgery two seasons ago. He came to the Bengals by trade from the Buffalo Bills. He is an accomplished lineman when he is healthy.
Left tackle John Jerry was picked up during free agency this offseason. He is the one that ultimately will take the job Christian Westerman was fighting for.
Billy Price could be the starting center. He was a major disappointment in his rookie season last year. He was plagued with injuries and had bad center to quarterback exchanges all last season. Trey Hopkins is having an excellent preseason. The Bengals might wait on the former number one draft pick if Hopkins keeps fighting for it.
Right guard John Miller was picked up in the offseason by free agency. Formally from the Buffalo bills, John Miller is probably the healthiest and most athletic of all the offensive linemen.
Right tackle Bobby Hart is a frustrating prospect the Bengals grabbed last season formally of the Giants. Bobby Hart managed to bring his penalty issues to the Bengals. The Bengals organization extended his contract to three years/21 million dollars.
