Hardly a day goes by without Jon Jones being mentioned in the headlines but today it came from out side of the UFC.
In an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani Kurt Angle was asked about Brock Lesnar and said, “I know he said he was retired….. But I think the one fight he wants, and I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, but he wants to go up against Jon Jones.”
Of course this is not the first time in recent memory that a possible return for Brock Lesnar has been rumored.
Last year Lesnar appeared cage side as Daniel Cormier captured the heavyweight title. We all remember what came next as Lesnar entered the cage giving DC a shove and calling him out on the mic.
Fans promptly lost their minds.
What followed was months of speculation and the heavyweight division being held up as DC, Dana White and fans scrambled for the money making match.
Unfortunately it never came together and DC instead faced Derrick Lewis to successfully defend his heavyweight title.
With DC now losing his title while his nemesis Jon Jones is again an active title holder there is a diminished interest in a possible trilogy bout between the two.
In a vacuum left by the potential challengers at light heavyweight fans are clamoring to know what comes next for Jones and his dominant run.
Enter Brock Lesnar and his massive fan base and all of a sudden you have a major draw.
A man used to his name being used for attention, it did not take long for Jones to respond to the possibility with the champion taking to twitter to say, “Brock is way too slow, I’ll embarrass him.”
This writer doubts this is the last we will hear about this.
