Cleveland Cavaliers Games to Watch: 2019-20 Season
The Cleveland Cavaliers open up their fiftieth season on October 23rd against the Orlando Magic. There are so many questions to answer. Although it will be another rebuild year, fans should be excited to watch this young team. We’re here to discuss some of the must-watch games.
November 23 vs Trail Blazers
Our first game comes exactly a month into the season. This matchup will be exciting to watch because of the backcourt battle. Collin Sexton and Darius Garland are drawing early comparisons to the tandem of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Although the two tandems may not play the same, the comparison comes from their sizes. Both duos will put up a tremendous amount of points. Look for a high scoring game from the starting guards for each team this game. Sexton and Garland will both come out with chips on their shoulders. Cleveland will face Portland twice this season.
November 25 vs Nets
The Cavaliers will be must-see basketball two games straight in November. The Nets had a stellar offseason and will showcase their new squad against the Cavs. Kyrie Irving is the focal point in this game. Since being traded, Irving hasn’t played against the Cavaliers many times, often sitting out of games with injuries. There may be some boos in the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, but there is still a lot of love in Cleveland for the 2016 NBA champion. Cleveland takes on Brooklyn a total of three games this year.
March 26 vs Lakers
We all know why this is a big game. LeBron James will return to Cleveland once more this season. Obviously some fans are still upset that James left Cleveland once more, but the city is still grateful to him for fulfilling his promise. Lebron James has a long lasting impact on the city. It will always be a show when James steps on to the court in Cleveland. As for the Cavaliers, the two games against the Lakers will be a great opportunity for growth.
February 28 at Pelicans
This may be one of the most exciting games of the year for Cleveland. Two of the youngest teams in the league will take each other on. The Pelicans and Cavaliers both had seemingly great drafts and have very youthful cores. There will be so many players and matchups to watch. Zion Williamson will have eyes on him all year. But don’t expect the other few rookies playing in the game to be out-shadowed by Williamson. Personally, this is one of the games I am most excited about.
April 8 at Warriors
It is time to write a new chapter in the book. The 2019-20 NBA season will be the first in years that neither the Cavaliers or Warriors are championship favorites. It will be intriguing to see in the upcoming years if the matchup continues to be a rivalry. Golden State will be playing in a brand new arena this year. The memories of Cavs vs. Warriors in Oracle Arena will live on for a long time, though.
