The Return of the San Antonio Spurs Point Guard

By. Akeem Da Beard

In 2016 the San Antonio Spurs Drafted a Point Guard out of the University of Washington with the 29th pick. Analyst said it was the steal of the draft that someone so talented fell so far. During that season he was sent down multiple times to the D-League to improve his game and gain experience which is the way the Spurs do things as not to rush progression. After a Devastating injury to Parker in the playoffs that year the Spurs decided to start the young point guard. He struggled with the offense but showed flashes of his potential defensively as he helped the Spurs make it to the Western Finals.

In 2017 after been given the keys to the starting point guard position over Tony Parker he showed huge progression. He brought length and athleticism to a Spurs team that was transitioning from the Big 3 to a younger team. He had quite the season flirting with triple-doubles and playing tremendous defense which earned him the youngest ever All defensive team selection.

Road to Recovery

Dejounte has had all season to rehab and work on his game and he brings extra motivation to prove doubters wrong. He has leaned heavily on the Spurs Medical Staff and Trainers during this process. Continuing his growth as a player and person he gives the Spurs tremendous credit for being with him every step of the way.

The Return

With many of the other young stars gaining the spotlight as the next big thing he is the forgotten star. Dejounte Murray has alot of potential and talent and the League better watch out. Murray and Derrick White are two of the premier young defenders in the league with instincts of a seasoned veteran and they can cause havoc around the league. Spurs fans should be excited to watch the teams growth and Coach pop should have them primed for the playoffs .
