Madison Bumgarner and the Potential in the Big Apple
Madison Bumgarner will be looking for a big payday as he enters into his age 30 season. He carries a high strikeout rate from his career, which should uptick his stock in the market. However, since owners aren’t basing players off their past accolades, that payday may be a bit smaller than he wants.
Bumgarner is going to be a hot topic throughout free agency. After an injury-plagued pair of years, the 2019 campaign served better for Bumgarner. He proved his health this year and while the prime might be behind Madison, he could still be a huge plus for a team. That team is one that hails from the Big Apple, the New York Mets.
The Mets at this point could look to move on from Zach Wheeler. Assuming that the market will become dry for the long-time Giant, Bumgarner would be a perfect fit. The Mets could look to bulk up the bullpen, however, if they strikeout in that aspect, they will shift their focus to starters. The door could potentially open for a veteran of the game.
Madison is most likely going to have to be patient while waiting for a deal. Likewise, the Mets should be patient while picking out a new starter for the rotation. Bumgarner could certainly be a guy who every fifth day makes that start and win more games than not for New York.
The Future for Bumgarner
When looking into Madison Bumgarner and his future, you will mostly get seasons like 2019 out of him. A .500 pitcher with a high margin in strikeouts, with quite possibly some late life. Bumgarner could still potentially get back to All-Star form assuming he stays healthy. The Mets could really make the best deal of the offseason if Mad Bum stays on track and continues to make his starts.
Looking into the Mets roster, New York is a potential playoff-bound team. Since defense is so crucial in every series played in October, you would want the best arms. Madison Bumgarner has been one of the best postseason pitchers in baseball plain and simple. He carries an ERA of just 2.11 through 16 games.
Fans can only imagine such a gamble that really pays off. Madison Bumgarner could be the biggest risk-reward type player this offseason. Will the Mets pull the trigger on Bumgarner? If so how will he fair in the Big Apple? Thus begins the wait for Bumgarner.
