Wizards pick up first home win of the season over Detroit

Home win

Last night the Washington Wizards picked up their first home win and second overall win of the season. While the Pistons were without Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose this is still an impressive win. Andre Drummond continued his dominant start to the season with 15 points and 24 rebounds. Can the Wizards build off this win?

Bradley Beal leads the way

Beal is off to an electric start to the season. Last Wednesday he put up a season-high 46 points in a 159-158 loss to the Houston Rockets. Last night he put 22 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds. Furthermore, he did so on 47% shooting.

In addition to the win, Beal also reached a major milestone in team history. Beal is now fifth in Wizards history in scoring with 9,834 points. He needs just under 6,000 points to pass scoring leader Elvin Hayes. Beal is sizzling to start the year as he’s averaging 26.5 points per game through six games.

Thomas Makes his first Wizards start

Isaiah Thomas made his first start with the Wizards and his first start in an NBA game since March 2018 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Thomas turned in a solid performance with 9 points and 6 assists in 24 minutes. After the game, Thomas was very appreciative of the opportunity.

On the season IT is averaging 14.5 points and 7 assists in 22 minutes of action. If he is able to reach his old form the high flying Wizards will have a very exciting backcourt duo.

Young players continue to impress

Rookie big man Rui Hachimura turned in another solid performance with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Hachimura has scored in double figures in five of six games and is averaging 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Troy Brown Jr also turned in his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Back on the road

The Wizards closed out their three-game homestand going 1-2. They will now head back on the road for a trip to Indiana. Four of their next five games are on the road with their next home game coming Friday where they will look for their second home win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
