A potential fight to become the No. 1 contender in the UFC light heavyweight division has been set.
Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz will square off for only the second time on Feb. 15. Anderson got the win via unanimous decision the first time around back in September of 2015 during UFC 191. The fight will headline the Rio Rancho, N.M. event, which is expected to air on ESPN+.
Both Anderson and Blachowicz are coming off huge wins in the light heavyweight division.
Corey Anderson (13-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) recently stopped the Johnny Walker hype train by finishing him in the first round via TKO back in MSG at UFC 244. With that win, he extended his winning streak to four.
As for the Polish powerhouse Jan Blachowicz (25-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC), he’s riding on his current two-fight win streak by spoiling the LHW debuts of Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo Souza. Having viciously knocked out Rockhold back at UFC 239 in July, he won via split decision last month at fight night 164 against Souza.
It’s fair to say the winner of this fight will get a title shot next, after Jones vs Reyes plays out on the 9th of February at UFC 247.
With this fight, the UFC Rio Rancho event is also set to include the following flyweight bouts:
- Montana De La Rosa vs. Mara Romero Borella.
- Rogerio Bontorin vs. Ray Borg
