As the non-tender deadline approached, the Rangers made the following transactions:
Firstly, RHP Nick Goody accepted his assignment to the Rangers after being claimed on release waivers from Cleveland. The team and Goody agreed to terms for 2020, avoiding arbitration.
Goody won over the Texas faithful with a tweet following the announcement.
The 28-year-old Florida native comes in with an above-average fastball but boasts a nasty 82-mph slider. In 40.2 IP in 2019, Goody accumulated a 15% swinging strike rate and 11 K/9. He struggled with control at times, to the tune of 4.8 BB/9.
Additionally, acquired on a waiver claim from Cincinnati was RHP Jimmy Herget. We only got a small sample from Herget on the MLB level, but at AAA Louisville, the young prospect ended his 2019 run on the farm with a 2.91 ERA and 10 K/9.
The Rangers also non-tendered RHPs Ian Gibaut and Wei-Chieh Huang, as well as LHP Jeffrey Springs making all three players free agents. The 40-man roster currently sits at 38.
According to MLB Network insider, Bob Nightingale, the Rangers have emerged at the forefront to land top free agent Anthony Rendon.
