The Texas Longhorns take home yet another win as they are now 7-1 on the season after defeating the University of Alabama Blazers. Coming off a subpar season last year (finishing with a record of 19-15) and losing their big man Jaxson Hayes. I don’t think anyone expected Texas to start off the season THIS good. They’ve shown that they have the talent to really make a run this year.
I don’t think that there was a moment in this game where Texas had a doubt that wouldn’t walk away with a victory. They took a one-point lead on basket form Jase Febres at 15:05 in the first and they never looked back. The Longhorns held a lead for the remainder of the game and continued to score efficiently. They even went on a 10-0 run in the 1sthalf that caused them to have a 17-point lead over UAB (the largest lead of the night). They finished the night shooting 49% (24-49) from the field and 44% (11-25) from three.
UAB had no answer for Texas guard, Andrew Jones20 points (6 threes), 2 rebounds and 2 assists off the bench. He also shot very efficiently (7-12) on the night. Courtney Ramey and Jericho Sims were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
UAB didn’t have a horrible night, they were just outplayed. They won the rebound game having 33 to Texas’ 25 and they only had a few more turnovers. However, Texas outstanding play in the first half was able to withhold them the rest of the night.
The final score was TEX 67 – UAB 57.
What’s Next for Both Teams
Texas plays Texas A&M on Sunday for the “Lonestar Showdown”. The Aggies are 3-4 on the season so far, so Texas will be expected to get yet another win. As for the Blazers, they play the number 12 ranked Memphis Tigers this Saturday. So they’ll have to play a more solid defensive game and really come out the gate scoring early and they want another one in the win column.
