Detroit Pistons 2020 Mock Draft

Detroit Pistons 2020 Mock Draft: The Pistons currently have the 8th ranked record in the league and after randomizing the lottery teams Detroit stayed in that 8th spot. So they have the 8th overall draft pick and they traded their second rounder to the Kings.

Players Already Gone

  • Hawks – Anthony Edwards
  • Pelicans – James Wiseman
  • Cavs – LaMelo Ball
  • Warriors – RJ Hampton
  • Knicks – Cole Anthony
  • Grizzlies – Deni AVdija
  • Wizards – Nico Mannion

Pistons needs– Consistent Point Guard Play, Wing help, Shooting

Player i would have on my Big Board for the 8th pick:

  • Tyrese Maxey, Kentucky
  • Josh Green, Arizona
  • Jaden Mcdaniels, Washington
  • Theo Maledon, ASVEL
  • Kiilian Hayes, France

Final 2 on my Big Board:

  • Tyrese Maxey
  • Theo Maledon

Tyrese Maxey is shining this season showing his ability to step up when the game is on the line and showing he can be a high level floor general. He is a smaller point guard but his speed and first step makes up for that. The biggest question i would have selecting him for the Pistons would be that his defense lacks and he doesn’t have the highest ceiling.

On the other side you have Theo Maledon from France who can contribute now and also has incredible potential. This would be the second straight draft they chose a player out of France with the first round pick. He is a great combo guard who excels on both ends of the floor. He needs to get stronger but he has the frame where he can put on quality size. Theo isnt an elite shooter but he has solid mechanics and can get a shot off quickly and smoothly.

After much discussion and scouting the pick is in:

“With the 8th pick in the 2020 NBA draft. The Detroit Pistons select Theo Maledon out of France”

Theo Maledon

Detroit has several guards they plug and play but they need that one consistent player they can count on every night. Theo is that guy and he can also be the leader on the court due to his great court vision and his ability to push the ball up court in transition. He and sg Luke Kennard would form a strong fundamental, lengthy back court who can shoot, pass and play pesky defense. This would be a great base for a team that has high flyer Blake Griffin and rebounding kind Andre Drummond.

Draft Take Away

It hurts a bit they dont have a second round pick because they are week off the bench and could use some more talent on the second team. Many havent seen much of Maledon but from what i have seen i believe he fills a need the Pistons are in great need of. He seems like a great “Glue” guy that makes everyone around him better.

The Pistons have a long ways to go but they continue to take steps forward and Drafting Theo Maledon can really accelerate those steps forward.
