Is Tony Ferguson the Man to Dethrone Khabib Nurmagomedov?

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are finally set to meet in the octagon after the UFC scheduled a date for one of the biggest and highly anticipated fights in mixed martial arts.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to defend his UFC lightweight title against Tony Ferguson in April of next year.

The UFC is reportedly aiming to hold the fight at the Brooklyn Center on April 18th, as Khabib has no interest in competing in Las Vegas again.

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have a long history and are very familiar with each other, having been destined to fight four times already in their careers, but have never shared the octagon as of yet.

Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0) is arguably the most dominant lightweight to enter the octagon. He last fought against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in September, defending his title by submission with a rear-naked choke.

Tony Ferguson (25-3) however, is one of the most exciting fighters in the world at the minute. He last fought at UFC 238 in June, defeating Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone by stoppage in the second round.

Tony brings a unique still inside the octagon with him. A mental toughness like no other, an incredible ground game of his back, and hasn’t tasted defeat since 2012 to Michael Johnson. He’s put up an impressive twelve fight win streak in one of the UFC’s toughest divisions.

Tony is a crowd-favorite and has won five ‘Fight of the Night’ awards in his last six outings. The mixed martial arts community believe Tony will be the one to take that 0 away from Khabib’s name. Do you?

It’s easy to see why, he’s caused problem’s for everybody he’s faced. Tony pushes a relentless pace while always leaving his opponent’s in a bloody mess. Although it’s hard to look at Khabib losing, as he’s been ragdolling everyone making them look like an amateur, if anyone can, it’ll be Tony.

As MMA fanatics we need closure on this bout between the two. Questions are to be asked at both ends. It’ll be interesting to see if Khabib takes Tony down, can he keep him down?. Can Tony pose a threat with his submissions?

April 18th can’t come quick enough.

Let’s hear your thoughts on this bout.
