Top defenses on Display as Heat and Lakers Clash

Two of the top three teams in the NBA clash in the Friday night matchup. The Heat, get their second nationally televised game of the year. Where the Lakers will play their, well 100th game. The Heat put their undefeated home record on the line when they face off against LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Two of The Best Defensive Teams

Going into Friday night’s matchup, both teams rank top-10 in defensive rating, steals per game, and rebound %. This is important because coming into the game, the Heat offense is scorching hot. They are coming off a victory where they scored a season-high 135 points. Both teams also rank in the top 15 in offensive scoring. Both coaches will have to implement a game plan to be able to stop LeBron, AD, and Butler. This could be a relatively high-scoring 1st half with necessary adjustments made in the 2nd.

Previous November 8th Battle

This will be the 2nd and final matchup of the year for the Lakers and the Heat. In their previous matchup, the Lakers handled the Heat fairly easily defeating them 95-80. The Heat in that one was coming off a back-to-back, where they are 0-3 when playing the 2nd half of the back-to-back on the road. The Heat are playing on two days rest and expect them to come out the gates fast if they want to take down the heavyweight Lakers

Can the Heat Stop AD/LeBron?

LeBron struggled with his young core last year. So, obviously he dumped everyone he had to get him a second superstar in Davis. The duo has been fantastic to start the season, and their 21-3 record shows. But, will the Heat be able to slow them down? In their previous matchup, LeBron and AD combined for 51 of the Lakers 95. Those were with Butler and Bam’s tired legs. I don’t expect the two defenders to lock them up, because so far no defense has been able to slow them down. However, I do expect them to play good enough defense to keep them in check.

Predictions

After losing last time to the Lakers, and not having defeated them since March of 2018, the Heat will look for a big statement win. I expect this game to be a lot closer than the first one, however, I still think the Lakers come away with this one 115-109. The first half is an offensive outburst whereas the second half is a lot closer than people expect. The Heat loses a close-one late, but get a well-deserved boost against NBA champion favorite Lakers.

The Heat is shocking a lot of experts this season and for all the right reasons. The Heat have the right energy and the right coaching. This will be the first time the Heat can show their talents on national TV. Also, expect the Heat to get flexed into a lot more nationally televised games down the late-portion of the season.
