Bam Adebayo, Your Eastern Conference Player of the Week
From games played through December 9 through December 15, Bam Adebayo is Eastern Conference Player of the week. For the second consecutive week, a Miami Heat player has won this award.
Twice last week, Bam posted a triple-double. One against the Bulls in a thrilling home overtime win. Then again in a second of a back-to-back against the Mavs. Coming into the season, Bam was regarded as a front-runner for Most Improved Player. With Whiteside now gone, paint duties are now on him. There have been additions of guys like Leonard and Silva, but none do the job Bam can. Bam can score when he wants, rebound like no other, has crazy athleticism for his 6’9 frame. He also is now starting to disrupt the passing lanes and we all know he can guard the rim. Bam, this season has already totaled more assists than he did all his rookie season. He is also going to shatter his assist total from a year before. Bam has done a wonderful job as the 2nd man on this improved Miami Heat squad.
What is Bam’s Ceiling?
We got glimpses of what Bam could do both his rookie and sophomore years. Now, we are seeing what he can do when given the minutes. He brings high-energy for every minute he is on the floor, never gives up and is always moving. The 21-year old out of Kentucky, who was the 14th selection in the 2017 draft is having himself quite a nice start to his 3rd season — averaging career highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. In his brief three year career he has played in all but 13 games. Now, brings the question, what is Bam’s ceiling? He is currently a front-runner for MIP and according to basketball reference 9th on the MVP ladder. But, can he sustain this success? All we know is that every single night Bam comes to play he will be giving you heart and grit for 48 minutes.
A Look at Bam’s Week
The past week was Bam’s world and us basketball fans were living in it. He took home his 1st player of the week award and showcased his skills with his first two career triple-doubles. Onward, Bam’s week was super. He and Butler, or as I look to call the “Killer B’s” led the Heat to a 2-1 record with wins over Chicago and Dallas and a close loss against the 21-3 Lakers. They played the Lakers tough but in the end, was not enough. On Tuesday vs the Bulls, Bam posted career-highs in points and assists (30 and 11). He followed that up with his “worst” game of the week after posting 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists while matched up against AD. Then, on Saturday Bam posted his second triple-double in as many days as he led the Heat to a thrilling road-victory.
One Last Word
Bam has had a lot of success in his 3rd year in Miami. He now gets to play alongside the likes of Jimmy Butler and has the Heat at 18-7. Bam looks to continue his success against a struggling Grizzles team. Then Bam Adebayo and the Heat will look to make a statement against another top center and top team in Joel Embiid and the 76ers Wednesday night on ESPN. Adebayo has improved by every stretch this year in every aspects of the game. He is on his way to not only a MIP, but a potential all-star bid. Look for him to keep working hard and working on his game night-in and out. Also, do not be surprised if some time this year we are talking about a 5×5 game from Bam.
