Celtics down Luka-less Mavs

Celtics beat the Mavs: After five off-days, the Celtics took care of the Luka-less Mavericks 109-103. With the win, the Celtics improve to 18-7.

Without Marcus Smart and Gordon Hayward, the Mavericks jumped out to a quick 13-5 lead. But, it was ultimately the Kemba Walker show in the first quarter as he finished the first with 16 points on 5-7 shooting, tying the score at 29 after one.

The Mavericks offense somewhat caught fire in the second quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 10 points before the Celtics could cut it to five and trailed 55-50 at the break.

During the third quarter, Kristaps Porzingis continued to put together a great game, his third consecutive 20-10 game. The Celtics figured out a lineup that worked on both ends, allowing only 18 points, and a 16-5 run launched the Celtics into a three-point lead at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth, Kemba Walker did what he usually does, dominate. Walker took over the fourth with a bevy of three-pointers, and the Celtics stretched their lead up to 12 points. The Mavericks were able to mount a small comeback in the end, but a late layup from Jaylen Brown and free throws from Kemba Walker sealed the win for the Celtics.

Kemba Walker led the game with 32 points on 9-18 shooting to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum aided Walker’s effort, both scoring 24 points of their own.
