Mission Control: Houston Rockets Recap Dec.16-21
Every week I will bring you into Mission Control for the Houston Rockets. I recap the most recent games for your Rockets.
The Houston Rockets last week faced three opponents that they have already played at least once this season. The San Antonio Spurs, The LA Clippers and the Phoenix Suns. After the tough loss at home on the second night of a back to back to the Pistons The Rockets look to get back on track and move up the Western Conference standings.
Houston Rockets defeat the Spurs 109-107 biggest comeback in franchise history
The Dec 16th game vs the Spurs was a complete role reversal of the first game where the Rockets lost. In that first game, the Rockets were up 16 in the fourth before losing late. Of course, this game is not necessarily remembered because of the lost but because of this Harden dunk that wasn’t counted.
This time around the Rockets were the team trailing as they came out slow and with zero intensity on there way to a 25 point deficient. The only player to show up during the first half was Russell Westbrook. All other Rockets players were cold from the field. The Rockets would trail 72-53 at the half. The second half was a different story as James Harden broke out of his early game slump and would score 19 of his 28 in the second half. Westbrook would go on to finish with 31 points as he continued to elevate his play over the last couple of weeks.
The Rockets went on to win 109-107. It was the biggest comeback in Rockets franchise history.
Russell Westbrook 31 points
Lamarcus Aldridge 19 points
Rockets defeat the Clippers 122-117
This was already the third matchup of the year between the Rockets and Clippers. Each team had one win coming into this matchup. This was another game where the Rockets started off slow as they were fighting uphill most of the first half. The Rockets would trail 69-54 going into half time as Harden struggled finishing with only seven points for the half.
For the second straight game, the Rockets came out in the third with more intensity and better overall play. Westbrook again with another strong game as he led the comeback in the third quarter the Rockets outscored the Clippers 36-18 in third. In the fourth quarter, Harden would find his groove as the game went back and forth. Harden scored 12 of his 28 in the last 6:32 as the Rockets pulled out the win 122-117. Westbrook would finish with 40 points and 10 rebounds as the Rockets secured the big win.
Russell Westbrook 40 points
Paul George 34 points
Rockets defeat the Suns 139-125
For the first time in awhile the Rockets did not have to come back from a huge deficit. It was close early on as the Suns stayed within striking distance. But this was the Harden show he put on a spectacular performance in his old college stomping grounds as he hit step-back after stepback. Harden had the Suns crowd urging him on to shoot as he would go on to finish with 47 points. Westbrook had another great game he finished with 30 points 10 assists as the Rockets pulled away 139-125. This was the Rocket’s third win in a row and seven out of nine.
James Harden 47 points
Kelly Oubre Jr. 26 points
The Houston Rockets will be busy as they have four games this week including a Christmas day game vs the Warriors. First up the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at 9 P.M.CT.
The Rockets sit at 20-9 for the season a season-high 11 games over.500.
