Top Fantasy Hockey Players of the Decade

As another decade closes, it’s always interesting to look back and see how the last 10 years unfolded. There are Top 10 lists aplenty this time of year and, to no ones surprise, Fantasy Hockey will have their’s as well.

Since forwards tend to dominate the upper echelon of fantasy hockey producers, I decided to split the list up. You will get to read about my Top 10 Fowards, Top 5 Defenseman and Top 5 Goalies.

Shall we….

Top 5 Fantasy Defensemen of the Decade

5. Victor Hedman

655 GP / 99 G / 331 A / 430 P / +91 / 147 PPP / .66 P/G / 7.2% SH% / 1,373 SOG

Top six in points, top four in even strength points, top four in P/G (minimum 650 games played) and top 2 in shooting %. The numbers are there to have Victor Hedman at number five of the decade.

4. Kris Letang

559 GP / 100 G / 339 A / 439 P / +75 / 176 PPP / .79 P/G / 6.1% SH% / 1,643 SOG

Kris Letang should be battling for the number one spot on this, but many injuries have kept his game totals low. Even with the low game totals, Letang has produced at a high level. He is second in P/G, top five in points and top five in PPP.

3. Keith Yandle

742 GP / 77 G / 396 A / 473 P / -42 / 219 PPP / .64 P/G / 4.3% SH% / 1,786 SO

You know what they say: The best ability is availability. Keith Yandle played the most games of any defenseman. He also leads the list for most PPP. Couple those with top three for points in the decade, Yandle finds himself at number three.

2. Brent Burns

709 GP / 166 G / 371 A / 537 P / Even +/- / 188 PPP / .76 P/G / 7% SH% / 2,360 SOG

The top two of this list could be swapped and I don’t think anyone would argue. Brent Burns is number one in goals. Number two in points. Number 3 in P/G and PPP. Add the most SOG and you have yourself a fantasy hockey beast for the last decade.

1. Erik Karlsson

Randy Vazquez/Bay Area News Group

658 GP / 128 G / 437 A / 565 P / -35 / 213 PPP / .86 P/G / 6.5% SH% / 1,983 SOG

Erik Karlsson leads all defenseman in points, assists, P/G and even strength points. I mean, there isn’t much more to say.
