AFC Wildcard Match-Up: Patriots vs Titans

The Patriots are the third seed in the AFC and ended the season with a 12 – 4 record in which they won the AFC East. The Titans are the sixth seed in the AFC and ended the season with a 9 – 7 record and that got them second place in the AFC South.

Patriots Regular Season

The New England Patriots started the season off on a hot streak in which they went 8 – 0. After that, the Patriots fell off and finished the season 12 – 4. If only the last 8 weeks of the NFL regular season were counted, then the Patriots would of finished last in the AFC East. The defense is outstanding and is , arguably, the best defense in the NFL this year. Their defense led the league in turnovers and yards allowed this season. Stephon Gilmore is in the race to be the Defensive Player Of The Year this season because of his performances. The special teams were also highly dominant this past season, especially Matthew Slater. The offense has been the weaker link of the New England Patriots team this season. Injuries have beaten down the Patriots offensive line this whole season. This has made Tom Brady look worse than in past years. But, the Patriots always look ten times better in the playoffs so you can never count them out.

Titans Regular Season

The Tennesse Titans started off the season with a 4 – 4 record and where not projected to make it anywhere near the playoffs. Marcus Mariota was not doing well and the team did not look like it could put together a playoff run. Ryan Tannehill took over in week six as the starting quarterback and surprised many. Tannehill has thrown 22 touchdowns, six interceptions for 2742 passing yards this season. Since Tannehill has been the starter for the Titans, the Titans have gone 7 – 4. On offense, young receiver, A.J Brown has looked like a franchise wideout receiving 1051 yards and eight touchdowns. The defense was average in the NFL being 21st in total yards allowed and 12th in points allowed per game. Their struggle has been in the passing game since they rank 24th overall. The Titans are a true underdog in this game but could pull out the win if they play amazing.

Conclusion of Patriots vs Titans

This game is going to be like David vs Goliath. The Titans are the underdogs going into the big game and the Patriots are the most winning team in the past decade. The Patriots offense will do well against stopping the passing game but will struggle if Derrick Henry gets onto a hot run streak against them. The Patriots offense should be able to score a good amount of points against the Titans unless the offensive line cannot hold its own. My prediction for the Patriots vs Titans game is Patriots 31 – Titans 21.
