Alfred Khashakyan Speaks Ahead of Bellator 238 Bout
Alfred Khashakyan looks to spoil the party for the UFC veteran in Sergio Pettis as both make their Bellator debuts on the 25th Jan 2020. Bellator 238 takes place in Inglewood, California, United States. The card is headlined by former UFC womens feathweight champion Cris Cyborg as she takes on Juila Budd.
Alfred Khashakyan (11-4) has the opportunity to make an exceptional statement if he gets passed the test of highly experienced UFC veteran Sergio Pettis. Both competitors making their Bellator debuts. Khashakyan first came under the big leagues radar when he competed on ‘NEF: Dana White Looking For A Fight‘. More recently ‘DW’s Contender Series 2017‘ which seen Khashakyan take a first round loss to Sean O’Malley. Since the bout with O’Malley, Khashakyan has been on a tear taking three first round finishes in a row home. Khashakyan is no slouch, finishing 8 of his 11 wins in the first round.
(I) could definitely take off O’Malley’s head if we were to run it back.”Alfred Khashakyan
Sergio Pettis (18-5) makes the move from the UFC to Bellator after suffering a rather up and down run of fights recently. Pettis has been fighting under the biggest organisations in the world dating back to 2013. He has truck loads of experience in the game, used to the big crowds and sold out arenas. Pettis was last in action v Tyson Nam in 2019 securing a unanimous decision win at ‘UFC on ESPN+ 17‘. Previously seen the ‘The Phenom’ go 1-2 in 2018.
I definitely have more experience as a fighter overall and I will show that come Jan 25th.Alfred Khashakyan
Below we caught up with Alfred Khashakyan to get his thoughts on the matchup.
How has camp been for you so far and how does one prepare for a guy like Sergio Pettis?
Khashakyan – “Camp has been very good even though Christmas and New Year have got in the way. I had a great diet plan and amazing training partners to help better myself for this fight. I am not worried about Pettis because my training partners are world champion kick boxers and Olympic wrestlers. Each being more advanced in their craft than Pettis.”
After taking your loss to Sean O’Malley, did that have an effect on you in anyway? How vital was it for you to bounce back with three straight wins?
Khashakyan – “After losing to Sean O’Malley I finally accepted the fact that I need to make sure I take care of my diet and recovery after regularly cutting 20 pounds of water before a fight. My diet was a setback to my performance at the O’Malley fight.and him being a cheater was another obstacle as well. It was necessary to get back on the KO winning streak to show people am still dangerous and could definitely take off O’Malley’s head if we were to run it back.”
What does it mean to you to be making your Bellator debut and getting the chance to showcase your skills under a major organisation?
Khashakyan – “Making my Bellator debut is a great opportunity to showcase my skills. Bellator has treated me with respect and gave me proper time and money to prepare for a main card bout with a well known name like Pettis.”
Your opponent is considered to be a ‘UFC Veteran’. He’s had a ton of experience under the bright lights of the UFC, Do you feel this plays into his favour? And lastly, give me your overall thoughts on Pettis as a competitor?
Khashakyan – “Pettis has had good fights in the UFC, even with current champion Henry Cejudo. This gives me more reason to show why I am where I am today with a debut in Bellator jumping straight up to the main card fighting top 10 ranked in my division. Pettis might have more fights than me inside the cage but I definitely have more experience as a fighter overall and I will show that come Jan 25th.
