The New England Patriots drafted Chase Winovich with the 77th pick in the 2019 draft. He was a steal and the third round and here is his review of the season.

Chase Winovich – College Days

Chase Winovich went to the University of Michigan for four years. He was an undersized edge rusher, but that did not stop Bill Belichick taking him in the third round of the NFL draft. In his senior season, Winovich had 15.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and 59 tackles.

When he was drafted, people saw him as a steal in the third round. He fits the Patriots defense perfectly because he is an undersized defensive end, but can go out and play zone coverage if needed. He reminds me of a Rob Ninkovich type of player because he could play both linebacker and defensive end.

Chase Winovich – Rookie Season

Winovich had an under the radar rookie season because he racked up 5.5 sacks, 12 solo tackles, and ten quarterback hits. Winovich did not start a game this season, but I expect him to start this next season. He was an outstanding back up defensive end because he could come into the game and make a big play. His explosiveness was next level, and his pass-rushing ability was off the charts. Given a starting role with the Patriots, he could be a pro bowler and have double-digit sacks.

Conclusion

Winovich has tremendous talent as a pass rusher in the NFL. He will earn his starting role soon enough and show us his full potential as a football player. If he can win a starting role next season, he could cause headaches for opposing offensive lines. He will also be an exceptional special teamer throughout his career.
