Would Jarret Stidham be a Good Starter for the Patriots?

What would happen in a Patriots world without Tom Brady? Brady has been the starting quarterback for the Patriots for almost two decades now. Could Jarret Stidham be that quarterback that can help the Patriots win just as Brady did?

Jarret Stidham College Career

Jarret Stidham began his collegiate career at Baylor University in 2015. As the starting quarterback for Baylor as a freshman, Stidham threw 12 touchdowns, two interceptions, and 1,265 passing yards. He then took a year off of playing college football to transfer to Auburn University. Stidham was a two-time starter for Auburn and threw 36 total touchdowns, 11 total interceptions, and 5,952 passing yards. After an alright college career, Stidham went into the draft hoping his name was called on draft night.

Jarret Stidham Draft Night and Pre Season

Jarret Stidham was drafted in the fourth round with the 31st pick by the New England Patriots. He came into the Patriots organization as the fourth-string quarterback behind Brian Hoyer and Danny Etling. After a couple of weeks of competition in training camp Stidham was promoted to the third-string quarterback role. Week one of the pre-season happened and Etling was cut soon after. This left Stidham and Hoyer to compete for the backup spot. After three more weeks of pre-season Hoyer was cut from the Patriots and Stidham won the backup role.

Conclusion

Stidham learned from the GOAT, Tom Brady, and he could have improved greatly this off-season. He is a pocket passer, which fits perfectly in the Patriots system. He could be another cinderella story of a late draft pick who becomes one of the greatest players ever. Stidham could also just end up like most fourth-round pick do, on the bench. If Brady leaves and they are not willing to pay anyone, then Stidham could easily be the starter next season. Overall I think he has a chance to be the starter, but he will have to prove that he can be the starter in training camp and pre-season.
