Georgia Football: Great Recruiting Needs Results
Georgia Football just pulled in its third straight No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, according to Rivals.com. With this kind of consistent success, expectations are at an all-time high at the University of Georgia.
Georgia Football fans have not celebrated a National Championship since winning the 1981 Sugar Bowl, capping off an undefeated 1980 campaign. Many of their fans have literally waited their entire lives to see the Bulldogs hoist another banner in Sanford Stadium.
The closest they have come was a trip to the College Football Playoffs, back in 2017. Georgia made it all the way to the National Championship Game but came away empty-handed in overtime.
Since that season Kirby Smart has brought in three straight No. 1 recruiting classes. Filling Georgia’s roster with talent from top to bottom. Georgia has a level of depth not seen before in recent memory. The Bulldogs should be able to line up and compete with anyone.
This year Georgia added seven of the nation’s top 60 recruits. They are:
- No. 1 offensive tackle Broderick Jones
- No. 2 cornerback Kelee Ringo
- No. 2 offensive tackle Tate Ratledge
- No. 2 tight end Darnell Washington
- No. 3 running back Kendall Milton
- No. 4 outside linebacker Mekhail Sherman
- No. 5 defensive tackle Jalen Carter
That is a lot of talent, but like Georgia found out this past year, talent doesn’t always lead to immediate results. The talent is there, but these players lack experience competing at the next level. It took George Pickens most of the season last year to show what kind of receiver he can truly be.
Even though Georgia’s roster looks talented on paper they have yet to show what they can do on the field. Recruiting championships are always going to get the fans in a frenzy but games are won on the field, not on paper.
This would be a hard sell to those die-hards in Athens though. They have waited through four decades of disappointment and they are ready to celebrate again. They are tired of being paper champs and want to raise another banner, now.
The Bulldog faithful are tired of the excuses and they want to see results. It is time to take the next step. It is College Football Playoffs or bust for the Bulldogs in 2020.
