UFC 247 Prelims Preview

The octagon touches down in Texas as Jon Jones is set to defend his title for the 3rd time. While a lot of buzz is around the kingdom of success Jones has built for himself, we at Overtime Heroics would like to take a moment to highlight some of the UFC 247 Prelims we feel are a must see.

Fight Pass Prelims

On the Fight Pass prelims, Andre Ewell is set to meet Jonathan Martinez. Martinez is currently riding a two-fight winning streak in the UFC and is 2-1 in the promotion overall. Ewell is coming off a loss to Marlon Vera, and is looking to rebound in this fight. With the bantamweight division hotter than it’s ever been, the winner could find themselves fighting ranked opponents very soon.

Featherweight prospects collide in a double UFC debut match-up, when Austin Lingo takes on Youssef Zalal. Both are exciting prospects who are looking to make names for themselves in a division stacked with some of the best talent in the UFC. This fight has all the potential to be a Fight of the Night contender.

Flyweight Contenders Collide

On the ESPN prelims, we have a crucial fight with ramifications for the women’s flyweight division. Former Invicta champ Lauren Murphy is due to take on former LFA champ Andrea Lee. With the 125-pound belt on the line this weekend, this fight moves the winner closer to the most wanted prize in all of MMA.

With Lee coming off a loss to Joanne Caldwerwood, ‘KGB’ will be looking to get her hands raised once again inside the octagon. Murphy is coming off a win over Mara Romero Borella.

Why Is This Fight Important?

Currently, the women’s flyweight division has a very clear path to the title. While the division holds several talented contenders, the champion, Valentina Shevchenko, has proven to be quite the test to solve. With a a few of the division’s top having already lost to the titleholder, it is not hard for the winner of this fight to take a gigantic step forward towards the belt with an impressive win in Texas.

In a night stacked with great fights, titles on the line and the possibility of history being made in the main event regardless of the outcome. UFC 247 has the potential to be one of the best cards of the year and these fights we have highlighted we believe will be sure to deliver.
