Aaron Murray makes XFL debut

Former Georgia Bulldog quarterback Aaron Murray made his debut in the XFL Sunday evening for the Tampa Bay Vipers.

On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Vipers played their first game of the season against the New York Guardians. Georgia fans might remember the starting quarterback for the Vipers, Tampa’s own, Aaron Murray. He was the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs from 2010-2013.

Murray struggled in his debut, completing 16 of 34 passes, just 47 percent. Now the struggles weren’t all his fault as there were some drops, but Murray’s accuracy was severely lacking. He was able to amass 231 yards through the air, though that came with two interceptions and no touchdowns.

Murray has now played in three professional football leagues. The Kansas Chiefs initially drafted him in the fifth round of the 2014 draft. Between 2014 and 2017 he bounced around four different NFL teams, but couldn’t make a roster.

In 2018 Murray played in the Alliance of American Football League as a member of the Atlanta Legends. Murray ended the season, completing 103 of his 159 passes for a 64.8 completion percentage. He also amassed 1048 yards, three touchdowns, and seven interceptions, according to Noextrapoints.com.

So now Murray is trying his third shot at a pro football career. That shot is off to a very shaky start with a lot of fans on social media already calling for him to be benched. Some even believe that he should go back to the booth and give up football altogether.

College Career

He was a fantastic quarterback at Georgia that still holds multiple passing records at Georgia, including:

  • Most Pass Attempts – Career 1,478
  • Most Pass Completions – Career 921
  • Most Passing Yards – Season 3.893
  • Most Passing Yards – Career 13,166
  • Best Completion Percentage – Career (Min. 1400 att.) 62.31%
  • Most Touchdown Passes – Career 121

According to Georgiadogs.com

He also led the Bulldogs to two SEC East titles and a victory in the Citrus Bowl.

It wasn’t all highs for Murray at Georgia though as he was 0-2 in the SEC Championship Game and 1-3 in bowl games.

Hopefully, Murray can rise to the challenge this time. All of the Bulldog Nation is pulling for him as well as everyone in Tampa. It really would be great to see Murray succeed this time around.
