2020 NBA All-Star Game

The NBA season is reaching the halfway point this month. To conclude the first half of the season, it is time for the annual celebration. The 2020 NBA All-Star Game will take place on Sunday February 16th in Chicago. United Center plays host to the festivities for the first time in the building’s history. LeBron James will captain one team while Giannis Antetokounmpo will captain the other. Moreover, this will be the third year in a row the NBA All-Star game will be played as a school yard pick’em. It will also be the second straight year LeBron and Giannis have served as captains. Let us see who will be playing in the 2020 NBA All-Star game and, ultimately, who wins the annual showdown.

2020 NBA All-Star Game (Team LeBron)

LeBron will serve as one of the five starters for his team. He will be joined by Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Luka Doncic, and James Harden. That is a formidable starting five to have to deal with. Coming off the bench, Team LeBron will have Damian Lillard, Ben Simmons, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Domantas Sabonis. Every bench player is the leading or second leading name on their respective teams. The one player that is having a breakout season, who we may not think about, is Sabonis. A big man that can shoot and play the post will be a weapon in this All-Star game. LeBron has put together quite the team and will be a force to be reckoned with come Sunday.

2020 NBA All-Star Game (Team Giannis)

Giannis will lead his band of brothers into the United Center for the 2020 All-Star Game. Joining Giannis in the starting lineup will be Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam, Kemba Walker, and Trae Young. These five individuals bring different aspects to an All-Star team. Each player can contribute to different aspects of the game. While this lineup does not jump off the page at you, these gentlemen can find their niche and give Team LeBron some problems.

Team Giannis will bring Khris Middleton, Bam Adebayo, Rudy Gobert, Kyle Lowery, Brandon Ingram, and Donovan Mitchell off the bench on Sunday. This second unit will be charged with keeping the game close when they are on the court. Team LeBron certainly has the advantage in bench players. On paper, it appears Team LeBron will run away with the 2020 All-Star Game. However, Giannis is having an MVP type year, and his leadership could play a big role in leading his team to victory.

The NBA All-Star game, historically, is high scoring. It will be different this year with the NBA paying homage to Kobe Bryant. The first three quarters will be added up before the fourth quarter starts. To win, the team will need to hit a target score which is set by adding their total from the first three quarters and 24. Furthermore, all points scored will go towards charity. Team LeBron is 2-0 as a captain of an All-Star team. He defeated Giannis last year by a final score of 178-164. While I give Team LeBron the advantage based on talent of the players selected, I expect Team Giannis to not go down without a fight. Team Giannis will live by the old mantra, used by the Golden State Warriors, “Strength in Numbers.” Will the numbers of Team Giannis overtake the talent of Team LeBron? Tune in Sunday February 16 at 7:00 on TNT to find out which All-Star team comes out on top.
