This weekend sees a stacked card come to the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The event will be headlined by light heavyweights Corey Anderson vs. Jan Blachowicz, and a co-main welterweight bout of the UFC veteran Diego Sanchez vs. the highlight reel Michel Pereira. Here, we will preview the fight card with a couple of contenders for the fight of the year award, at UFC Fight Night: Anderson vs Blachowicz.
Corey Anderson vs Jan Blachowicz 2
This main event has all the tools to be a classic, with both men gunning for a title shot, knowing that the current Light Heavyweight king Jon Jones barely survived his last bout against Dominic Reyes.
Anderson is currently on a four-fight win streak, finishing the young prospect that is Johnny Walker in the first round via TKO. He will be hoping to continue this fine run of form. Anderson currently has one up on his opponent for the night, Blachowicz, who he defeated via decision back in September 2015 on the Johnson vs. Dodson 2 card.
Blachowicz is currently on a two-fight win streak himself, coming off an impressive KO victory of Luke Rockhold and a split decision win over Jacare Souza. Blachowicz will be hoping to end this fight in decisive fashion and show the UFC matchmakers why he should be next in line for a shot at the Light Heavyweight throne.
Whatever happens in this fight, it could truly prove to be a classic.
Diego Sanchez vs. Michel Pereira
Diego Sanchez has been in the UFC since 2005, when he impressively beat Kenny Florian in the first round via TKO. Since then, he has gone on to have a career with many ups and downs but never being quite able to make it to the top. Sanchez is currently coming of a unanimous decision loss to Michael Chiesa back in July 2019, he will be hoping to get back in the win column for possibly one final push towards the top.
Michel Pereira is also coming off of a decision loss to Tristan Connelly back in September 2019. His performance was the talk of the night due to the showboating and backflips which he had on display during the fight, whereas his opponent was able to take advantage of when Pereira ultimately gassed out.
Pereira is currently 1-1 in the UFC and is hoping for a victory over the Veteran Sanchez to put him back on track to hopefully break into the top 15 this year.
The Best of the Rest
Montana De La Rosa vs. Mara Romero Borella
On the rest of the main card, we have Montana De La Rosa vs. Mara Romero Borella. With both fighters coming off losses, they will both have a point to prove and want to get back into that win column in the women’s flyweight division.
Brok Weaver vs. Rodrigo Vargas
Brok Weaver is set to take on Rodrigo Vargas in a lightweight bout, with Weaver currently on a 7-fight win streak, making his debut on a UFC main card. He will be hoping to hand Vargas his second loss in the UFC, previously falling to a decision loss to Alex da Silva Coelho in his last fight.
Ray Borg vs. Rogerio Bontorin
Ray Borg will be hoping to break his way back into the top 10 of the flyweight division with a win over current #7 Rogerio Bontorin. Borg is coming off a decision win against Gabriel Silva and will be hoping to go on a streak of his own to put himself into the title picture.
Lando Vannata vs. Yancy Mederios
The opening fight for the main card will see Lando Vannata take on Yancy Medeiros in the lightweight division. With both men coming off losses, Vannata via decision to Marc Diakiese and Mederios losing to Gregor Gillespie via TKO, they will both be out to get back in that win column by putting on an impressive performance.
The main fight card kicks off at 5:00 PM PST and the Prelims start off at 2:00 PM PST. Don’t miss it!
