Top 5 Must-Watch Cubs Series in 2020 Season
Baseball is almost back, and the Chicago Cubs have many good series coming up in 2020. But what are the top 5 must-watch Cubs series of the 2020 season? With games in London, to playing at home mid-summer against an unfamiliar face. The Choices are endless.
5. March 30th – April 1st vs Pittsburgh Pirates
Starting off the list is the home-opening weekend. The Cubs have a three-game set in Milwaukee, but the home opener is always a special event. Although the Pirates don’t have the most entertaining team in the majors, hopefully, the series will be electric and set the tone for the 2020 season. There will plenty of meetings throughout the year with the Pirates, but this series will be the best one. Last season the Cubs went 11-8 against Pittsburgh.
4. July 21st – July 22nd vs Chicago White Sox
The Windy City showdown; it’s always a fun time when the Cubs faithful goes head to head with the south side. The fans give it to each other weeks in advance and the winning team gets bragging rights for a full season. This series is more about the off-field antics with the rival fan bases than the play on the field. But these games also give Cubs fans the opportunity to watch White Sox’ budding stud Eloy Jimenez, who the Cubs traded for pitcher Jose Quintana. Last season the Cubs and White Sox split the series on the south side 1-1, but overall the Sox lead the regular-season series 62-60.
3. April 16th – April 19th at Washington Nationals
On April 16th the Cubs travel to the nation’s capital to take on the defending World Series Champions the Washington Nationals. And this series will be a great early test to gauge where the 2020 Cubs are at. The Nationals have a strong core with Trea Turner, Juan Soto, and Max Scherzer. No matter the outcome Washington is a fun team to watch and should give some early insight into the Cubs season. The Cubs went 2-4 against the Nationals last season.
2. September 25th – September 27th vs St. Louis Cardinals
The Cubs’ final series of the regular season will be held at Wrigley Field. But Cubs fans can only hope that this series will give the Cubs momentum at the end of the season and hopefully into October baseball. Regardless this is going to be a great series to end the season, playing a fierce rival in the St. Louis Cardinals. Luckily this series is in Chicago, and not as Kris Bryant would say, the boring city of St. Louis. Against the Cardinals in 2019 the Cubs went 9-10; Cubs fans will be hoping the 2020 season outcome will be different.
A few games that didn’t make the list but could have. Opening day March 26th – March 29th at Milwaukee Brewers, opening day is a huge day around the majors and the Cubs opening series against the Brewers should get fans excited baseball is back.
Also May 4th – May 6th at the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are a well-known powerhouse, and a favorite to win National League so this should be an exciting series.
June 13th – June 14th vs the St. Louis Cardinals in London England. Although this two-game series may not be in North America, it’ll be a great experience for the players and fans in London.
1. June 19th – June 21st vs Boston Red Sox
In mid-June, the Red Sox will be making their third visit to Wrigley Field. This series between two of baseball’s most storied franchises is still exciting as the two teams haven’t seen a lot of each other since the 1918 World Series. Because the MLB didn’t adopt interleague play until 2005 since the interdiction of interleague play the Red Sox and Cubs have matched up a whopping 15 times. In those 15 meetings, the Cubs are 8-7 against Boston. This Series is a must-watch because seeing the two teams going toe-to-toe is still new. Seeing the Red Sox play at Wrigley doesn’t come around often.
With the season fast approaching Cubs fans should be getting excited. There will be many great teams visiting Wrigley this summer and hopefully more happy fans. The Cubs will fight home, away, and further away in London, England all summer for the chance to excite fans in October. Now it’s almost time to hype up the boys and cheer loud this summer.
