Brandin Cooks is on the Trade Block

Brandin Cooks has been a solid wide receiver for the Rams the past two seasons. He has been a major part of Jared Goff‘s passing targets because of his quickness and hands. Due to salary cap issues, the Rams started shopping Cooks.

Brandin Cooks’ Salary Issues

The Los Angeles Rams gave Cooks a five-year extension in 2018 worth 81 million dollars. He was guaranteed 20.5 million dollars at signing and total guarantee is 49.5 million dollars. On March 20th all of Cooks income in 2020 will be guaranteed. The Rams need to find a trade partner quickly because they can escape alot of dead cap and save 12 million to the cap.

Three Teams That Could Target Cooks

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots already had Cooks on their roster. He was Tom Brady‘s go to target because of his raw talent as a prolific receiver. More than likely the Patriots will be going with a different quarterback and they need more star power for him.

Chicago Bears

The Bears are in a similar situation because they have not much star talent at wide receiver. The Bears have solid wide receiver Allen Robinson but they need a deep threat with sure hands. This is especially needed if the Bears bring in Andy Dalton which needs a deep threat. The only problem the Bears have is making cap space available for him.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have messed up on some deals with their receivers that are becoming inadequate. Adding Brandin Cooks to the receivers Core will give Carson Wentz a dynamic he never had. The Eagles always manage their cap space will when they need to. This is the best fit for Cooks.

Cooks salary for the rest of his contract will be more manageable for the Eagles. As long as Wentz is healthy it is the must logical place for Cooks.

Brandin Cooks has had an excellent career so far. He caught 402 passes for 5730 yards. He has an average of 14.3 yards a catch and 34 touchdowns in six seasons. Last season was not his best season with only 42 catches for 583 yards and two touchdowns. He had injury issues last season but is now in good health.
