The Carolina Panthers are reaching a deal with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. The deal is reported to be $60 million over three years.
Earlier in the morning, the Panthers organization gave Cam Newton permission to seek a trade. Newton disputed that he asked for the trade and that Carolina forced it on him.
Teddy Bridgewater started five games for the New Orleans Saints in 2019 when Drew Brees was out with a thumb injury. Bridgewater was able to win all five games he started. He threw for nine touchdowns and only two interceptions in his short stint as the starter.
The Panthers are looking to find an identity under new head coach Matt Rhule. Pairing a solid young quarterback with Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, and Curtis Samuel is the start of a solid foundation on offense.
As a result, Cam Newton will likely be shopped for a trade. The Panthers now have Newton, Bridgewater, Kyle Allen, and Will Grier under contract.
