2020 NFL Draft: Notre Dame WR Chase Claypool Scouting Report

Chase Claypool is one of the most talented wide receivers in college football. He is fast, physical, and powerful. He brings a lot of energy to the table and he’s a guy you want to have on your team.

Chase Claypool Stats

Claypool put up great numbers last year. He stood out among a lot of wide receivers in his class. This stud stands at 6’4” and weighs in at 229 lbs. In 2019, he had 66 receptions, 1,037 yards, and 13 touchdowns.

Claypool’s Strengths

Claypool has many strengths. This athlete is full of talent. First off, for a big guy he is very fast. He has great first steps right off the snap and can easily get past defenders. His feet are lightning quick. Also Chase is very physical at the line. He does great with getting separation from press coverage and he wins the majority of his hand battles. Claypool has great ripping techniques as well. Quarterbacks can rely on this playmaker to go up and get the 50/50 jump balls. He uses his size to go up and snag those passes. Another thing that i really like is how he competes for yards after a catch. He will not go down easy at all. Claypool keeps his legs moving until he hits the ground. Finally, the strength I love the most about this athlete is his energy when he steps on the field. This guy is full of fire power and he is ready to get drafted.

Claypool’s Weaknesses

There aren’t many weaknesses in Claypool’s game. From what I’ve watched, sometimes he picks up passes late giving him delayed reactions when trying to make a play. Also Chase will get tied up a the top of routes from time to time. Those can involve in offensive pass interference once in a while. Besides those few kinks, this talented player is ready to be a pro.

Chase Claypool Projection

Claypool will be in the NFL next year no question. In my opinion he will be a late first round pick or early second round pick. Wherever this stud ends up, he will be successful at the next level.
