Browns Pay Homage to History with New Uniforms

This was over a year in the making. The Browns announced way back in 2018 that they would be getting a uniform refresh in 2020. The fan base has so anticipated this release as most fans were not impressed with the most recent uniforms. We take a look at the uniform release for the Browns and see the inspiration.

Why the Uniform Update

The uniforms since 2015

The Browns were listening to what the fan base was saying about the current uniforms that were introduced back in 2015. They’re ugly. When all was said and done, the only good look out of this batch of uniforms was the Color Rush. It wasn’t until 2018 that we finally saw the all Brown Color Rush uniform and everyone loved them. They pulled these out for the first time against the Jets that broke the losing streak. This happened to be the debut of Baker Mayfield. He took over for an injured Tyrod Taylor.

During the 2018 season, the Browns wore the Color Rush uniforms a total of four games and won every game that year. The Browns of 2019 were hoping for the same luck that this uniform combination brought, but that was far from the case. Unfortunately, the uniform winning streak ended week one against the Titans. Winning has not been very good for this uniform since it was released in 2015. With a record of 17-62-1, it is time to take these uniforms and burn them.

Yesterday’s Video Release

Wednesday, April 15th, marked the release of the new uniforms the Browns were going to go with for the 2020 season and beyond. This was a much-anticipated release for the Front Office which had been working on this project back in 2018. Browns’ social media outlets are probably some of the best in the business. Last week, they put out a hype video to prep for the April 15th release. Twitter exploded with all the people trying to break down the video to catch a glimpse of what the uniforms were. Prior to the Browns, both the Tampa Bay and Atlanta released new uniforms. The Bucs highlighted their Super Bowl time with bringing back certain color schemes. Unfortunately, the Falcons went with a new age, retro style that makes them look like this year’s XFL teams.

Browns Focus on Charity

So, the Browns announced earlier this week that all net sales would be donated to charity as we deal with COVID-19. Owner’s Dee and Jimmy Haslem started the “Hats Off to Our Heroes” Fund. This will benefit health care professionals, educational professionals, first responders, and other groups that are pivotal in the fight against COVID-19. This says a lot about what the Cleveland Browns do to give back to the community. With players like Myles Garrett, Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry, Larry Ogunjobi and the Haslems all giving hefty donations to help out the Cleveland community. It makes me very proud to be a Browns fan. I completed my good deed yesterday afternoon as I purchased a white, Myles Garrett jersey.

What Was Once Old is Now New

New uniforms released on April 15th.

The uniforms for 2020 definitely go back to the glory days of the Browns. They cleaned up the shoulder stripes on the brown and white jersey’s. Even though they tweaked the Color Rush uniforms, The Browns went without any striping on them. Cleveland brought back the old school style socks. These socks match the stripes on the shoulders. This style goes back to the ’70s. The uniforms are an amazing improvement from what was released in 2015. With the reactions seen on Twitter today from the players, they seem to like them a lot.

The new color rush

We will see how new Head Coach, Kevin Stefanski does with this group. Most of us fans think this was a great hire. Cleveland has had a very solid off-season so far. With the additions of Jack Conklin, Karl Joseph, and Adrian Clayborn the Browns could be putting themselves in contention this year. As we wait for the draft to get here next weekend, the Browns sit at @10. With still having needs at Left Tackle and Line Backer, it will be interesting to see how things shake out. As you all know, the draft will be here before we know it and we get to see what all our teams do or don’t do.
