49ers Mock Draft With No Trades

The 49ers own seven draft picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. They own two picks in the first round and then wait until the fifth round to make their third selection. They own two fifths, a sixth, and two-sevenths rounders. The NFL draft is a virtual draft. The 49ers will be looking to reload for a Superbowl run.

The reason there are no trade backs in this mock draft is due to many people that have talked to me have told me there will be teams looking to trade back rather than up. Teams feel they can get the same talent level in rounds two through four. If the 49ers can’t find any buyers for their picks to trade back and acquire some draft capital they will have to hit on their picks in round one and in the back end of the draft.

Round One

C.J. Henderson, Cornerback, Florida

With the 13th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Cornerback CJ Henderson out of Florida University. The 49ers have no corners under contract next season. Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon, Emmanuel Moseley, and K’waun Williams are all not under contract for the 2021 season. Henderson is arguably the best cornerback in this draft class. He has good size and length and would step in and be a starter in year one. Henderson could play man to man, and zone, he would allow the 49ers to do more in the back end of their defense. 49ers would be wise to take C.J. Henderson at 13 overall.

Michael Pittman Jr., Wide Receiver, USC

The 31st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft the 49ers select Wide Receiver, Michael Pittman Jr., out of the University of Southern California. Pittman would step in and complement Deebo Samuel. He brings everything you need in a wide receiver. Pittman is a deep threat, he can run the intermediate routes and the shallow routes. He plays big just as his size six foot four inches. He is a great run blocker, something important in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and has really reliable hands that Jimmy Garoppolo would like. For a big receiver, he is pretty complete, he is capable of running all the routes on the tree and provides something the 49ers do not have on the roster.

Round Five

McTelvin Agim, Defensive Tackle, Arkansas

With their first pick in the fifth round, the 49ers select defensive tackle McTelvin Agim out of the University of Arkansas. Agim is a defensive tackle that was playing defensive end prior to this season. He comes with a variety of pass rush moves, he is strong and has good closing speed. He is versatile and can play the nose, three-technique and if needed the big end position. Agim stood out during the senior bowl and the East/West shrine games. He is getting more attention from NFL personnel than media.

Michael Onwenu, Offensive Guard, Michigan

The second pick in the fifth round the 49ers draft Offensive Guard Michael Onwenu out of the University of Michigan. A thick girthy interior offensive lineman who plays strong and is able to drop the anchor to hold ground. When out of position he is able to recover nicely for a big man. He isn’t athletic for a guard, so he might not be a zone running scheme fit, but his power makes up for his athletic ability. He’s also a good pass blocker which is something the 49ers need inside.

Round Six

Dalton Keene, Tight End, VT

The 49ers draft Tight End Dalton Keene out of Virginia Tech. Keene is a swift army knife, he is very versatile. Shanahan could see him and see an H-back, Fullback, and a tight end. Keene is a good run blocker. He plays faster than his 40 yard dash time, he is a physical player with the ball in his hands. He would be the ideal pairing mate for George Kittle, two determined players in the blocking game and when they get the ball in their hands they look to punish you and not come down.

Round Seven

Francis Bernard, Linebacker, Utah

The 49ers take Linebacker Francis Bernard out of the University of Utah. An athletic smart linebacker that would be a depth player, and a special team player for a long time. He is quick to diagnose the run and in zone coverage he recognizes the routes coming. He would be a player that is liked throughout the locker room and be a player the 49ers could fill comfortable to rotate and be that special teams ace.

Anthony Gordon, Quarterback, Washington State

With their second pick in the seventh round the 49ers select quarterback Anthony Gordon from Washington State. The 49ers have back up quarterbacks Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard, however, Mullens will look to sign a bigger contract next offseason and Beathard hasn’t shown any signs since he was drafted. Gordon had a really good senior bowl that showed his good feet and his ability to throw off different platforms. He is a quarterback that will sit in the pocket read his progression and take a hit to deliver the ball. Makes anticipation throws and leads his targets, and has a nice tight delivery that allows him to get the ball out quick. This would be a good pick to possibly move Mullens for draft capital next year and have Gordon as the future back up.

Overall

The 49ers could get a game-changer cornerback with Henderson. Pittman could be the number two receiver to Deebo and possibly grow into a number one. Agim has good potential and has versatility. Onwenu would be a good back up guard and provide depth inside with upside to potentially start. Keene would be a solid number two tight end and Shanahan has been looking for another tight end to go with Kittle. Bernard and Gordon would be quality backups with Benard having special teams value. Four out of the seven players have met with the 49ers prior to the draft. Henderson, Onwenu, Keene, and Bernard have met with the 49ers.
