The NFL draft starts Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. (Central) with round one. It then continues to Friday for rounds two and three starting at 6 p.m. After that, it finishes up with rounds four, five, six, and seven at 11 a.m. For the Chicago Bears in the 2020 NFL Draft, they don’t start until Friday (barring a trade). Here is what the fans need to look out for.
Chicago Bears’ 2020 NFL Draft Picks
- 43 (Round 2 via LV)
- 50 (Round 2)
- 163 (Round 5)
- 196 (Round 6)
- 200 (Round 6 via PHI)
- 226 (Round 7 via LV)
- 233 (Round 7)
In short, the Bears essentially have the same amount of picks they would normally have. Certainly there is a huge drop off from the second round all the way to the fifth round.
The Bears still have a few holes to fill after free agency. They addressed major positions such as cornerback, offensive guard, outside linebacker, and tight end, but they still have a few holes. Here are their positions ranked by which need the most help.
|IOL||The Chicago Bears added Germain Ifedi this offseason to compete for the right guard spot. He hasn’t played a game at right guard since 2016. In addition, he is a penalty machine, so they need someone else to help out.|
|S||All the Bears have at strong safety right now is Deon Bush and newly acquired Jordan Lucas. None of them have started more than six games in one season.|
|CB||Kevin Toliver II, Artie Burns, and Tre Roberson are competing for the starting job. Feel comfortable with that? No? I don’t blame you. Toliver is the only guy I’d be okay with starting here.|
|WR||Wait, the Bears have Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Javon Wims, Riley Ridley, and Cordarrelle Patterson. What else could they need? They need a speed ‘X’ wide receiver to take the top off of a defense. Patterson is basically just a kick returner, so they need to address it via the draft.|
|OT||Charles Leno and Bobby Massie were horrendous last season. Simply put, they had the worst seasons of their career collectively and they both are still starters. Hopefully, they bounce back.|
|RB||This is one of the sneakiest needs for the Bears. If David Montgomery goes down, Ryan Nall and Tarik Cohen are the two backs ready to take over. They need another body.|
|TE||This isn’t a huge need, but it’s still a need. Jimmy Graham isn’t getting younger and their current ‘Y’ tight end, Demetrius Harris, isn’t anything to brag about either.|
|ILB||They truly just need depth. The two starters both got hurt last season at some point. Luckily, the Bears had Kwiatkoski and Kevin Pierre-Louis. Now, they don’t.|
|OLB||Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn are going to terrorize quarterbacks. What if they get tired and need a break? Certainly not a lot of depth behind these two studs.|
|DL||Another position like ILB and OLB. Likewise, they need depth.|
|QB||Depth. Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky may not be a flashy duo, but one of them will be one of the best backups in the league. If Trubisky doesn’t pan out, why not get a guy late just in case?|
The Perfect Draft
The Perfect Draft will never happen. There is no way for everyone to be satisfied with the results of the draft because so many fans have many differing opinions. For instance, the perfect draft to me is my recent mock draft of the Bears I did. In all honesty, this team seems ready to make another playoff run. If the Bears fill a few of these holes, they could be a tough team to beat. The Chicago Bears’ 2020 NFL Draft will help define the season.
