Zebaztian Kadestam is former ONE Welterweight World Champion. He started training in Muay Thai at 12 years old and has never looked back. He has embarked on a very well respected professional Muay Thai career.
Kadestam got introduced to other disciplines of martial arts by a BJJ brown belt. Since then he has embraced the draw to the cage.
Since his arrival at ONE Championship Kadestam has fought the top in the division. Names such as Santos, Askren, Thani, and of course winning the Welterweight World Championship against Tyler Mcguire.
I recently had the opportunity to ask Kadestam some questions, about his career. Enjoy.
You have been with ONE Championship since 2017. What was it about them that appealed to you as a fight organization?
ZK – My favorite part of ONE Championship is the ruleset, it suits me perfectly. And the way they promote martial arts instead of cheap trashtalk.
You’re currently 4-2-0 in ONE. Who would you say was your toughest opponent and what made them so difficult to fight?
ZK – I would say my toughest fight would be my last with Abbasov. It was a very tiring fight and I couldn’t get anything going.
Is there a rematch with Abbasov on the cards for you to have your chance of reclaiming your gold? How do you see things going in a rematch as it obviously when to the judges last time round?
ZK – I would take a rematch any day. I believe I would get the knockout in a rematch. I would have to make some adjustments in the gameplan and preparations in order to get my belt back.
A large majority of your victories have come from your phenomenal strike game. How do you utilize your skills to get the best out of your striking?
ZK – My wrestling and ground game is getting better day by day and that allows me to use my striking a lot more.
Who would be your dream opponent past or present the fight that if it was offered you wouldn’t think twice?
ZK – I would love to rematch all my losses. Other than that, I’ve always wanted to have a war with Robbie Lawler. He is one of my favorite fighters of all time with out doubt.
Sweden over the years, has produced some of the toughest fighters in MMA what do you attribute to that. Is it the Viking bloodline that set you guys apart?
ZK – For sure we still got that viking bloodline going.
What’s your ambition for the future. What would you consider in 10 years’ time to be a job done on a successful memorable?
ZK – First of all I gotta get my belt back, defend it a few times. I’m also looking into a run in the ONE super series Muaythai and kickboxing with my eyes on another world title.
