Ravens Officially Sign Future Starter at Right Guard in DJ Fluker

DJ Fluker

DJ Fluker is officially headed to Baltimore after passing his physical and signing the contract. The Ravens and Fluker originally agreed to this deal just two days after the Seattle Seahawks released Fluker. This move made a lot of sense when you consider Marshal Yanda retiring this offseason. The Ravens did address the position with some developmental pieces in the 2020 NFL draft. However, Fluker should be inserted immediately to the top of the right guard position battle.

The Skinny

Entering his eighth year in the league, DJ Fluker just turned 29 in March. Fluker was originally a first-round round pick in 2013 out of the University of Alabama by the Chargers. More recently, Fluker spent time with the Giants and the Seahawks. His stint with the Giants was short and unproductive. He performed better for the Seahawks but was made expendable by the 2020 NFL draft.

DJ Fluker is a mammoth of a man and has started 88 out of 92 career games. He has missed 20 games in his career due to various injuries. The Ravens will be hoping to see an improved Fluker in 2020. In 2019, he allowed six sacks and had seven penalties, per Pro Football Focus. However, Fluker gives the Ravens a lot of experience at right guard if he is able to secure the starting job.

Picture This

DJ Fluker will be in a tight competition for the starting guard position. This competition will also feature Ben Powers, and the 2020 draft picks Tyre Phillips and Ben Bredeson. However, if Fluker can get a hold of the Ravens’ starting right guard position, this offensive line will be MASSIVE. The Ravens would have Ronnie Stanley (6-6, 315 pounds), Bradley Bozeman (6-5, 317 pounds), Matt Skura (6-3, 313 pounds) or Patrick Mekari (6-4, 308 pounds), Orlando Brown Jr (6-8, 345 pounds), and Fluker (6-5, 342 pounds). That is a lot of beef on the offensive line. Good luck getting penetration through THAT line, defensive coordinators!
