What are the Dallas Cowboys plans for 2020? As we wait for 2020 scheduled to come out (preseason & regular season), America’s Team is preparing for training camp if and when it happens.
Typically, the Cowboys hold training camp in Oxnard, California, through the first two weeks of the preseason. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, those plans might change.
According to 105.3 the Fan, the Cowboys are looking at moving training camp from Oxnard, California to the Star in Frisco, Texas. Training camp is set to start on July 21.
Sources close to the station say that Mike McCarthy’s travel pan had been scrubbed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. During Saturday’s post Draft “virtual press conference, new Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy had a suggestion:
“We’ve done some heavy planning on, first, if we’re able to go to Oxnard,” he said. “And if we’re not able to go to Oxnard, what’s it going to look like if it’s in Frisco?”
During the NFL Scouting Combine, he had this plan which is different than he is suggesting now:
“I’m going to Oxnard here in a couple of weeks. I’ll spend a day there,” McCarthy said. “Just to walk the property. We’re going to meet out there just so I can see it, to see the operation and how it flows.”
As far as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is concerned, there will be football.
“There is no question we’re going to get back as a country. .. and when we do, as we always do, we’ll be better than we ever were,” a teary-eyed Jones said, vowing, “We’ll play football.”
But that doesn’t mean we’re all ready to return to normalcy.
Cowboys camp is so often a circus, in many of the best ways. Here’s hoping when McCarthy (and the rest of Cowboys Nation) finally does travel to Oxnard, it’ll be the same.
Or … here’s hoping we’re all safe with a semi-quarantined Cowboys training camp right here in Frisco.
