The New England Patriots announced their full 2020 season schedule last night. The home opener will be against their divisional rival; the Dolphins.
The Patriots will begin the season defending their AFC East title in week 1 against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 13, at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. This game will mark the fourth straight season that the Patriots open their season at home. This is also the first time since 2014, when the Patriots lost to the Dolphins in Miami, that New England will open the regular season against a division opponent.
The Miami Dolphins lead the all-time series between them and the New England Patriots 56-53. In the past five years, the Dolphins have won the majority of the games; the Dolphins have won three out of the five. The first loss to the Dolphins was in week 14 in 2017 with a score of 27-20. The second loss to the Dolphins was in week 14 in 2018 after the “Miami Miracle” with a score of 34-33. The third loss to the Dolphins was in week 17 in 2019 with a score of 27-24.
As the game gets closer and closer, people might put the odds against the Patriots. Considering the Patriots’ losses and all the new and young players coming in: people may think the Dolphins will win. Also, there is the addition of Tua Tagovailoa, quarterback drafted on the fifth overall pick, on the Dolphins. This may also be a reason for people to stack the odds against the Patriots. The Patriots fans’ faith in Jarrett Stidham is strong because Stidham is going to have to be great for wins in these tough games.
