Carolina Panthers Historic Draft
The Carolina Panthers made team history by choosing to use all seven of their draft picks solely on defensive players in the 2020 NFL Draft. Derrick Brown out of Auburn is clearly the headliner within the Panther’s draft class. There are also a couple of other players folks should keep in mind as we gear up for the 2020 season.
Safety Jeremy Chinn out of Southern Illinois may not be a name college football fans paid attention to each Saturday. You will be hearing it on Sundays when he is disrupting the opponent’s passing game. The Fishers, Indiana native was a consensus All-American in 2019, wreaking havoc in the MVFC. Chinn’s 4.45 speed will allow him to cover ground for a weak Carolina secondary that already has speed in Donte Jackson. Jeremy finished his career with the Salukis with 243 tackles, 13 interceptions, 31 passes defended, and 6 forced fumbles.
Troy Pride Jr. comes from a more well-known school than Jeremy in Notre Dame. He will likely be able to compete for playing time right away on the opposite side of Donte Jackson. Like his new teammate, Pride has blazing 4.40 speed. The South Carolina native appeared in 5 games his freshman season and started his final three seasons at Notre Dame. Not to mention, he ran track at Notre Dame as well, posting the team’s best 60 and 200 meter times.
The Panthers lost both James Bradberry and Luke Kuechly this off-season. This draft proves they’re concerned about the defensive side of the ball. We’ll see if this class pans out to help them fix their defensive needs.
