European MMA Prospects
Over the years, European MMA has produced future UFC stars such as Alexander Gustafsson, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor, Alistair Overeem and many, many more.
We only have one UFC Champion hailing from Europe, Khabib Nurmogomedov, and similarly in Bellator, with Gegard Mousasi. However, there are still plenty of up-and-coming talents emerging from the European MMA scene.
Here are some names to keep an eye on in 2020 and beyond.
Ciryl Gane is a 6-0 heavyweight fighting out of Vincennes, France. He recently made the move from TKO MMA, where he was the heavyweight champion, to the UFC at the back end of 2019.
This French heavyweight prospect rounded out 2019 with three victories in four months against Raphael Pessoa (Arm Triangle Choke), Don’Tale Mayes (Heel Hook) and Tanner Boser (Decision).
At 6-foot-5 and with devastating knockout power, the 12-0 Muay Thai standout has already shown he can use his power or his slick ground game to control and win fights.
Rustam Kerimov is a 14-0 bantamweight fighting out of Makhachkala, Russia.
Absolute Championships Akhmat, formerly known as ACB, provided the UFC with one of its best bantamweight talents in Petr Yan back in 2018. Now, ACA are looking to provide another highly-anticipated prospect who could potentially woo the UFC. The undefeated Kerimov won Yan’s newly-vacated title with a split-decision victory over Oleg Borisov. Kerimov would be a massive signing for the UFC and would make the ever-competitive bantamweight division even tougher.
Soren Bak is a 14-1 lightweight fighting out of Denmark.
Bak is the former Cage Warriors lightweight and interim featherweight champion. After winning all five bouts under the Cage Warriors promotion against Scott Clist, Martin Stapleton, Alexander Jacobsen, Paddy Pimblett and Morgan Charriere, Bak would earn himself a spot on the Bellator roster.
The Dane has earned himself a big reputation for his wrestling ability, and that was on full show at his Bellator debut against Terry Brazier, nullifying Brazier’s attacks to gain a dominant majority decision victory.
Mandy Bohm is a 6-0 (1 NC) flyweight fighting out of Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
The SBG Ireland prospect may have only competed once in 2019, but it was enough to secure her a flyweight title under the TKO MMA promotion, which she earned with a rear-naked choke against the previously unbeaten Jade Masson-Wong.
Bohm may need to add a few more defences of her title before the UFC or other major promotions start calling, but the exciting flyweight would definitely be a fantastic addition to any promotion.
