Pelicans vs. Jazz: Preview, Simulation, Prediction

Pelicans vs. Jazz Volume 3

The third edition of the Pelicans vs. Jazz is poised to be a great contest. The Jazz are currently in 4th place with a record of 41-23, putting them 13 games ahead of the Pelicans. Unfortunately for them, they had one of the most dramatic breaks of any team during the Pandemic. After Rudy Gobert tested positive for Covid-19 and Donovan Mitchell did as well, the two have admitted they didn’t talk to each other for a while because of how irresponsible Gobert was in the Lockerroom. There have even been trade rumors surrounding both players. With Gobert still recovering from the virus and the Jazz rebuilding chemistry, they may not be the same team on July 30th.

The teams split the season series taking a game each. Both games really came down to the wire with Jazz taking the first 128-126. Brandon Ingram and Bogdan Bogdanovic had 35 points each and Rudy Gobert grabbed 19 boards. Zion Williamson, the Pelicans second highest PPG scorer was inactive for that game. The second matchup went to overtime with the Pelicans taking it 138-132. Brandon Ingram was unstoppable in this contest, dropping a career-high 49 points while Donovan Mitchell also netted 45 points. Zion was inactive for this game as well.

With the tensions running high ins the Jazz locker room and the history between the teams, it seems this will be a very interesting and unpredictable match-up.

NBA 2K Simulation

The game started off pretty close with Donovan Mitchell and Zion Williamson both scoring 12 points in the first half. The jazz lead by five going into the 3rd quarter. In the second half, however, the Pelicans scored at will and completely pulled away. They won the quarter by 20 points and were ahead by 15 going into the 4rth quarter. They stretched the lead to 35 at one point and the final score was 111-80 fr the Pelicans. NOLA scored 39 fast breakpoints to the Jazz 6, and a whopping 72 points in the paint while the Jazz scored just 48. New Orleans shot 56% percent from the field and 41% from 3 and the Jazz shot an awful 34% from the field and just 14% from 3.

Zion finished as the leading scorer with 23 points and Donovan Mitchell put up 21 for the Jazz. Rudy Gobert lead the game in rebounds with 19 and Derrick Favors pulled down 12 boards for the Pelicans.

My Prediction

While the Jazz have played great all season, the current scenario which the two teams are in currently points towards an upset for the Pelicans. With all the drama going on in the Jazz locker room I find it hard to believe that it won’t affect the way they play at all. Also, both of the games these teams played this season were very close and I believe that if the pelicans would’ve had Zion they would have won both games. Zion and the Pelicans have a lot more at stake than the Jazz and will give everything they have to find there way into the playoffs, I believe they will take home the victory against the Jazz because they need to and because they have the right players and chemistry to do so.
