Predicting the Giants Record: Weeks 1-4

This series will be predicting the Giants Record for all 16 games of the 2020 NFL Season! Check out part 1 below.

Game 1: Steelers vs. Giants

September 14th, 2020

In the season opener, the Giants face the Pittsburgh Steelers. This will be Big Ben’s first game returning from injury, so no doubt he will be quite rusty. The Giants defense, with notable additions of CB James Bradberry and S Xavier McKinney has the capability to stop the Steelers offense and hold them to 14 points. The real trouble will come when facing the Steelers defense, specifically Minkah Fitzpartick and T.J. Watt. However, it will be hard for the Steelers defensive to stop with an upgraded offensive line, a healthy Saquon Barkley, and a promising second year quarterback.

Result: Win

Score: 17-14

Current Record: 1-0

Game 2: Giants vs. Bears

September 20th, 2020

The Giants face the Chicago Bears in week 2 of the 2020 NFL season. The new and improved Giants defense should have little to no trouble stopping the weak Chicago offense. Again the problem comes when facing the defense. The number one priority should of course be to run the football with Saquon Barkley and establish the run game. Here’s hoping Sterling Shepard can stay healthy because the Bears secondary can’t stop Darius Slayton, Shepard, and Golden Tate all together. Not to mention, the receiving threats of the Giants backfield in Barkley and Lewis

Result: Win

Score: 14-6

Current Record: 2-0

Game 3: 49ers vs. Giants

September 27th, 2020

A few weeks ago this game would be completely in the favor of the 49ers, and it still is, for the most part.  Emmanuel Sanders is now a member of the Saints, leaving young star, Deebo Samuel as the WR1. However, he recently injured his foot and aims to come back relatively early in the season, but there has been no set date released. It is unclear if Samuel will play week 3 vs. the Giants. However a weak receiving corps will not be enough for the Giants to get a victory. They will have to score on the Niners defense, shut down their strong run game, and try to contain George Kittle. None of these seem possible. The 49ers will hand the Giants their first loss of the season in week 3.

Result: Loss

Score: 24-12

Current Record: 2-1

Game 4: Giants vs. Rams

October 4th, 2020

Coming off of a loss against the 49ers, the Giants look to bounce back and earn their third win of the season. That will not come easily. On defense, the Giants will have to focus on wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, realistically though, the two of them are the only two offensive threats the Rams have. Yet again the Giants offense face a tough defense, this time led by Aaron Donald. It is clear the Rams defense isn’t what it used to be two years ago, however this does not make it weak. What it does mean is that Daniel Jones and the Giants offense will have a much easier time scoring than they have against any other defense they’ve played thus far. In a very close game, it looks as though the Giants will barely escape the Rams, however this game really could go either way.

Result: Win

Score: 24-21

Current Record: 3-1
