Main Hightlights

Although the game ended in the sixth inning due to the weather, it was an Opening Night to remember. For the New York Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton went two-for-three with a homerun and three RBIs. The first hit he had was a homerun in the first inning, as he took a 98 mph fastball and swatted it into the centerfield stands bringing home Aaron Judge. The last hit he had was a single to right, bringing home Gio Urshela in the top of the fifth inning.

Aaron Judge had one RBI as he hit a double to left field bringing home Tyler Wade in the third inning.

Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer pitched a complete game for the Nationals, striking out 11 batters. Although Max gave up four earned runs, he has one of the best fastball and changeup combinations in the game of baseball. He has struck out 10-plus batters in the last three Opening Day games which is second best in the modern era.

Gerrit Cole

As for Gerrit Cole, he went the distance as well, only giving up one earned run while tallying five strikeouts. Gerrit has that 97-99 mile per hour fastball that hitters just can’t seem to do anything with.

The Yankees racked up their first win of the season by the final score of 4-1. One down, 59 to go…
