The highly-anticipated return of ONE Championship turned out to be more than what we expected. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, The Home Of Martial Arts was forced to postpone some of its events. However, the world’s largest martial arts organization came back with what could very well be one of the best striking cards in 2020 in ONE: No Surrender.
RODTANG VS PETCHDAM
In tonight’s main event, we witnessed an intense and heated rivalry, as ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon defeats #5 ranked ONE Flyweight Muay Thai contender Petchdam Petchyindee Academy via unanimous decision. The long-awaited rubber match delivered spectacular jaw-dropping highlights.
The gameplan for Petchdam was evident as the match commenced. Utilizing his reach and length advantage were key early for Petchdam. “The Baby Shark” was able to keep distance with his probing jabs and push kicks.
The champion started off quite slow, still finding his rhythm.
In the 2nd round, Rodtang upped his aggression and was able to explode with flurries of combinations as he closes the distance. As Rodtang found his momentum, there was no stopping him. “The Iron Man” was able to stay in front of Petchdam and land hooks as he comes inside.
Midway through the 3rd round, Rodtang began to easily to walk Petchdam down and corner him to the ropes. Rodtang started changing levels. Throwing leg kicks and body punches, he was able to find a home for his straight right hands. Everytime Petchdam clinches, Rodtang is able to produce good work, landing short hooks and as they separate.
Rodtang Jitmuangnon outscored Petchdam by landing more during their exchanges. Petchdam was wobbled on several occasions as he was caught with Rodtang’s overhand punches. “The Baby Shark” had no reply to the hand speed, accuracy and power of the Champion
PETCHMORAKOT VS YODSANKLAI
Also, in the co-main event, Petchmorakot Petchyindee successfully defends his ONE Championship Featherweight Muay Thai Belt as he defeats Yodsanklai Iwe Fairtex Academy via Unanimous Decision.
The fight started with both men throwing low kicks.
Yodsanklai had a good opening round, bringing an aggressive pace and forward pressure. Cutting off the footwork, Yodsanklai landed nice combinations and uppercuts as he closes the distance.
Petchmorakot slowly shifted the momentum onto his side in the beginning of the second round. Playing long and controlling the distance with push kicks and jabs, Petchmorakot successfully deflects many shots, even on his back foot.
Yodsanklai managed to open a cut on Petchmorakot’s left eye with an elbow during the clinch.
It was the 4th round that made the difference. Yodsanklai’s aggression started to fade as Petchmorakot lands with more volume and accuracy. The champion capitalized on Yodsanklai’s forward pressure, catching the challenger’s kicks and countering with crisp left hands.
