While a rookie getting a hot start to the season is nothing new, Seattle Mariner rookie Kyle Lewis very well may parlay his early success into a Rookie of the Year Award.

The “Forgotten Rookie” as Lewis has been dubbed, has started the 2020 season on a torrent pace through the first week of the season.

Coming into 2020, Lewis had a lot to prove. His 2019 debut during September call-ups, showed what he was capable of. During that month he hit six home runs in six days. Lewis also had a slugging percentage of nearly .600, and actually had more extra-base hits than singles. Kyle Lewis impressed and set his name as a potential starter for 2020.

After earning the starting nod for 2020, Lewis was ready.

Through the first series against the Astros, he hit .400 with homers in the first two games of the series. On top of that, he scored a run in each game and six hits through the series. While the Mariners lost the series 3-1, Lewis was a shining star on the lineup.

Kyle would show in Los Angeles that his performance in Houston, was not just a flash in the pan. It was there, where Lewis showed his amazing bat control. In the three-game series, Lewis notched seven hits and three RBIs.

With the first week of the season in the books, Lewis’s stats show a trajectory towards the Rookie of the Year award. The biggest stat is his Major League leading 15 hits. From this, he also leads the MLB in batting average of all players that have played all eight games hitting .455. Not only has Lewis hit safely in every game of the short season so far, he has six consecutive multi hit games.

“The Forgotten Rookie” Kyle Lewis is having a start to the historic 2020 season that could earn the award for best rookie in the MLB. The only thing that can stop Lewis at this point, would be if the season itself stops.
