The MLB players need to step it up. Yes, Manfred has made horrible decisions this year. Yes, not having a bubble city to be playing in is terrible. However, this does not keep you from criticism. So the message to the MLB players from here on out: step it up.
Let’s just get this one out of the way. Going to a club during a pandemic is not the brightest idea. Going to a club and putting your team in quarantine is even worse. Potentially having the league shut down due to your actions is deplorable. Fourteen players tested positive, as well as numerous staff members. Also, the Phillies reported Covid cases after playing the Marlins. All of this resulted from the actions of a few players’ and their selfishness.
There is a time and a place for relaxing after a game. A club during a pandemic is not one of those places. Instead, what we now have is a league scrambling to make up games amidst talks of shutting down.
Now, after a week, players are beginning to test negative. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to the Marlins.
Not to be outdone, the St. Louis Cardinals decided a casino was the perfect spot to hangout.
The players were caught after Harrison Bader shared a picture on Instagram. In this picture, we see Bader, along with three other players, posing with three women in the parking lot of the casino. as a result comma 13 members of the Cardinals have now tested positive.
This is not on MLB or the commissioners office. These players broke quarantine rules and now have to face the consequences. However, what should the punishment be for these players who broke quarantine?
A few ramifications come to mind for the players causing this to happen. First, suspending the players for a portion of the season. If Joe Kelly gets suspended for eight games for throwing at Alex Bregman, there should be a suspension for those who break quarantine. In addition, fining players who break quarantine may be another remedy. With players already taking a pay cut, fining those who break quarantine will curb others from doing so.
Due to the widespread cases on these teams, it is time to call on all of the MLB players to do better. The outbreaks caused by these two clubs could have been prevented. Baseball has already been delayed, an you the players can help prevent it from being gone for the rest of the year.
