Interleague: Pirates Home Against Indians; Preview

After another postponement, the Pirates are back home to face the Cleveland Indians in a three-game set. The Pirates were facing the Cincinnati Reds, however after a player on the Red tested positive, MLB postponed the series. Pittsburgh didn’t look that bad going into game one of the series and came out with the victory.

The Bucs scored nine runs in the first two innings in game one. However, game two they got demolished by the Reds’ hitting.

Before the 60-game season started, the Bucs faced Cleveland in a three-game exhibition series and were swept.

Pitching

Tonight’s game one starters are, JT Brubaker for Pittsburgh and Carlos Carrasco for the Indians. Brubaker is coming into the game with a 0-2 record and a 3.38 ERA. While comes in with a Carrasco is 2-2 with a 3.22 ERA. Similar starters for the evening however Carrasco is the better hurler.

In game-two, the matchup will be Steven Brault against Aaron Civale. Like Carrasco, Civale has a 2-2 record, however, his ERA is 3.60.

Brault has yet to cash in a win this year, and with an ERA of 5.14, it’s been tough for him. Unfortunately for Brault is that he’s a great pitcher, however, the offense can never seem to turn it on.

Lastly, game three’s duel will be Trevor Williams against Shane Bieber. Bieber is having an incredible year so far, 4-0 with a 1.30 ERA. Compare that to Williams’ 1-3 and 3.98 ERA, it’s obvious who the better pitcher is.

Like the Reds series, the Bucs have a lot of work to do. Sadly, the Bucs couldn’t go up against guys like Trevor Bauer. But, this series will be another test at the plate.

Hitting

Colin Moran leads the Pirates in home runs, with six on the year. Jose Ramirez leads his squad with five. Ramirez also leads the Indians in RBI with 18.

Franmil Reyes and Kevin Newman both lead their respective team in batting average. Reyes with .316 and Newman with .246

The 4-14 Pirates must start winning soon and they have another tall task in front of them with the Indians. Cleveland his in 2nd place in the AL Central, 13-9, while the Pirates are in last place in the NL Central.

The Bucs also have the worst record in MLB right now, so to say they need to win is an understatement. They will have a hard time with this Indians team as they did in mid-July with the exhibition games. However, now the games count.
