Ryan McBroom: The Year Of Progression

The 2020 season has been an interesting one, to say the least. However, 1B/OF Ryan McBroom has used this year to show that he can be a big-league player. Coming into the 2020 season, it was looking like he was going to be platooning with Ryan O’Hearn at first. That quickly changed when O’Hearn went down due to COVID-19 and some other players continued to struggle to start the season. The 2020 season has become a year of progression for Ryan McBroom.

More Playing Time

As mentioned earlier, McBroom has seen much more playing time then he did in 2019. When the Royals acquired McBroom from the New York Yankees, he only played in 23 games. However, in 2019, he had 6 RBIs and batted .293 in that short stretch.

This season he has already played in 17 games. In those games, he has started at 1B seven times, DH three times, and LF once. He has also entered in games as a pinch hitter multiple times.

With an increased role with the team, McBroom’s numbers have progressed at the dish. Playing in 16 games, he is batting .286 with an OPS of .905. After not hitting a homer in 2019, he has come back and hit 3 clutch home runs so far. One of the most memorable ones was when he came into pinch hit vs the Cincinnati Reds and tied the game.

With more playing time and increased power, Ryan McBroom looks to have found his stride in 2020. After hitting 26 home runs in AAA for the Yankees organization, McBroom potentially could be the breakout player off this ball club during this 2020 season.
